Olivia Newton-John's missing man 'found alive and well, living in sleepy Mexican fishing village'

The former partner of actress Olivia Newton-John, who went missing five years ago on an overnight fishing trip, is living a new life in a Mexican seaside village, it has been revealed.

Patrick McDermott created worldwide headlines in 2005 when he vanished, aged 48, just days after ending his nine-year romance with the Grease star.

Now it has emerged he is living in the Mexican village of Sayulita and working as a ship's mate on a tourist yacht.

He is said to have emptied two bank accounts containing his life savings before diappearing.

Residents of the Pacific coast town say the 'tranquil man' they knew as Pat Kim has turned out to be Mr McDermott living under his birth name.

Shown a photograph of Mr McDermott, they confirmed he had been living in the town for several years.

At least Olivia didn't end up in jail for murder. :shifty:

So, is faking your own death a better way to leave someone than having a string of crazy tattooed Nazis claim you've been cheating with them, or is this just Olivia Newton-John's pathetic attempt to bump Sandra Bullock off the front page of the tabloids?

Look at it this way...wouldn't you consider it a worthwhile goal if it gets you as far away from Olivia Newton-John as possible?

I have heard stories that in the day (60s/70s), Livvy was quite fond of men, which was interesting, given her squeaky clean image.

I can't think of another half of a celebrity couple who's just up and disappeared like that. It's a total douche-bag thing to do, since people will naturally suspect foul play.

On the other hand, he'd just had an awful breakup, was out on a fishing boat and apparently decided that he'd like to spend the rest of his life working on a fishing boat. She was, in effect, replaced with carp. Ouch!

Was there a big search for him at the time he disappeared?

If so, shouldn't people be calling for him to have to pay for the search like many did with the Runaway Bride?

They should, but he's probably unable to pay anything on his Mexican fishing boat wages.

findpatrickmcdermott.com and wiki have more on him.

A Coast Guard investigation released in November 2008 concluded that McDermott "most likely" drowned. However, the circumstances of his disappearance have fueled speculation that he faked his own death. The case has been featured on America's Most Wanted. In a 2009 feature on Dateline NBC, investigators went undercover to look for him in Mexico, where they believed he may be in hiding. The investigators claim that he disappeared to avoid debts, including USD$8,000 owed to his ex-wife for child support, and created the website FindPatrickMcDermott.com for the sole purpose of trapping Mr. McDermott.

Ironically, I bet Olivia now wishes he was dead. :D
