5 New G.I.Joe Character Posters Revealed

i'm mystified how anyone can claim they 'don't know' who anyone is apart from Snakes, Scarlett and the Baroness. (ignoring the later-added Storm Shadow) the only two left are Duke and Ripcord. Ripcord's played by Marlon Wayans and is black. Duke is white and played by Channing Tatum. process of elimination people!

Speaking only towards the visual, if the creators of this movie are going for a serious tone of the film, then yes, the Joes would look very similar. They're more or less a black op team, you won't see them out and about with colorful costumes, etc.

Personally, I like how they look, I don't want silly for this movie (ironically enough, considering the property). Hopefully the script and acting will be good enough so the character's personalities can define them better than the costume they're wearing.

I think the point is if somebody saw these posters individually, they wouldn't know who the hell most of them were. I mean, how could you? You could assume, for instance, that the guy was Duke, but you wouldn't know.

At least in the case of the X-Men movies, they have a defining feature, even despite the black leather. Wolverine has his hair, Cyclops his visor, etc.

Fair criticism. I am actually surprised that the posters don't have the character names somewhere. I mean, us geeks can figure this stuff out or just know off the top of our heads - but I'm not sure if the general public will be able to figure anyone out other than Snake Eyes and Baroness.

That's a fault of the character design from the very beginning though. Both Duke and Ripcord were about the most boring figures. (at least Ripcord came with a parachute)

It looks like they photoshopped sunglasses (not even eyeglasses) on the Baroness to distinguish her from Scarlett because they look practically identical.

Well, Ripcord was actually quite a minor character. I'm not even sure why they chose him for the movie.

Duke, on the other hand, I always remembered had a prototypical "army officer" look: green pants and a light brown shirt...or variations on that. Not too original, but to me that was kind of the point. He is representative of the army's best...the ultimate soldier. But he was realistic...not too flashy. He's the quintessential soldier and therefore the quintessential GI Joe. Sometimes the series and comic verged into the fantastical, but remained somewhat grounded in military reality. As the main character, Duke symbolized that aspect and helped keep it that way.

Is this making sense to anyone? :shifty:
