4th of July

Hope everyone is have a great 4th of July weekend. For our canadian friends, hope Canada Day was great and for everyone else, happy regular weekend. ;)

Anyway, just wondering if anyone had any special plans for this weekend, specially 4th of July. I always love this time of year because not only is it Independence Day, but it's Also my birthday weekend (Today, July 3rd, 27 years ago ;) ) so it's one big good time.

Unfortunately this year my mom has been in the hospital for the last week with Cellulitis in her left knee and a high fever. I hope she's able to come home tomorrow but I'll believe it when I see it. That has kind of put a damper on things though, as today was not really eventful. Of course on Friday I went to see Super 8 and Last night went to see a Baseball game and Fireworks show so that was fun, but I am concerned about my mom and hope she makes it through all the way.

As for tomorrow, I'm going out to dinner with a friend and then going to a local town firework show. Looking forward to it and maybe meeting some new people as well. Really need to learn how to meet new people and pick up a lot more friends.

Anyway, hope everyone has a great 4th and stay safe. :)

I have to work on the 4th. I don't care, though - I mean, I do respect our country and its independence of course, but I don't need the day off for it. In the end, I get holiday pay, plus I'm not into fireworks. :)

Past nine years I've spent the fourth with my husband, celebrating his birthday. Since he's in California and I'm in Illinois, I'm going to keep busy by volunteering at a domestic violence shelter. Someone's always got to be there, holiday or not, so I figured I might as well do something remotely productive and help out.

Not looking forward to braving crowds on the El and around here though. I love Navy Pier but the foot traffic from tourists drives me nuts sometimes.

I would personally like to thank all Americans for having a holiday to celebrate my mother's birthday.

I'll say what I said on Facebook:

Picture it: Philadelphia. July 4th, 1776. George Washington Carver and Kirk Franklin lay down the Declaration of Independence on King George of Spain. While a tired Kevin Bacon looks on, Herbie Hancock and Carnie Wilson of Wilson-Phillips, signs into law the beginnings of the greatest nation since the warm, verdant democracy of Greenland. God Bless you, America. God Bless you a lot.

I'm going to celebrate by being a Bostonian who spent his childhood a stone's throw from the Battle of Dorchester Heights. :D

Happy Independence Day, everyone. :bolian:

Be sure to do something free. ;)

I plan on drinking a few beers, and eating baby back ribs.

It'll probably just be my husband, me, our son, and my little sister(who will spend the evening trying to convince me that I should let her have a beer).

I'm taking a long weekend this coming weekend, so I plan to do some work I brought home today and use the holiday instead of a vaca day next Monday.

I'll be hanging out with my wife, kids, and my mom. We'll probably head up to the mountains for a hike this afternoon, then grill some steaks and catch a fireworks show.
Oh yeah, and then I can wake up every 10 minutes while the jackass down the street blows off firecrackers until 2am. A few years ago he lit the hedge in front of his house on fire, but that didn't stop him, so fingers crossed that he loses a digit this year!

Anyway, just wondering if anyone had any special plans for this weekend, specially 4th of July.

Dumping tea in the harbor, going down to the British pub and kicking everyone out, measuring things in feet and inches.

You know, the usual....

;)

Happy 4th everyone. Be safe.

As I posted on my Facebook:
Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826, the fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and a few hours before John Adams. Told that it was the Fourth, Adams answered clearly, "It is a great day. It is a good day."

Did my 4th of July celebrating on the 2nd. My parents came out to visit; we took a Mississippi Riverboat tour and went to a baseball game that concluded with a fireworks display.

Today, I plan to use my day off to have a Harry Potter marathon and play video games. :D

happy new year...

I actually said this by accident and thought it was no big deal LOL

Friday night, I got woken up about 2am by explosions going off in the parking lot next door. When I looked out the window, I could barely see a pair of headlights pulling away through the smoke. Some people are not too bright.
