45 Classes!!!

I thought it was implied. There are no Romulan, Klingon or Vulcan ships listed.

I hear ya, but the NX-Class is a Starfleet class of ships whose influence on starship design appears to extend 'till at least the 24th century.

Does anyone know if the classes of the Earth Starfleet ships seen in The Expanse and Twilight were ever named by the writers/producers?

There is no mention of the Nova Class.

That list is incomplete.

Its missing the:

Constellation: USS Stargazer
Nova: USS Equinox
Prometheus: USS Prometheus
Wells: USS Relativity

So we're now at 49 classes. How many are active and/or still in production?

Make that 51.

Springfield: USS Chekov
Challenger: USS Buran

(both were Wolf 359 wrecks)

I don't want to tackle which are active/still in production at the moment.

Technically, the Wells wont be in service for another 400 years. :p

It does seem kind of strange that Starfleet has a squillion of different ship classes in service, but the Romulans only had two classes of warbirds in the 24th century.
I would imagine that was mostly due to the fact they used models for TNG and part of DS9. I would imagine that if we got a new Trek series there would be more types of Romulan and Klingon ships since they would be using CGI.

There are also a few ships that we don't know the class name of, such as the Raven, the Curry, the Yeager (the ship, not the class) and the Centaur. Also the warp scout ship seen in INS does not have a class name.

and because of the Remastered TOS, we now have the Antares and the Medusan ship, of which we don't have class names for.

I thought that the USS Centaur was actually Centaur-class.

They are not canon, but the novels recently have introduced the Luna-class (Captain Riker's USS Titan is one of those) and the Vesta-class (Captain Ezri Dax's brand new USS Aventine is a member of that class, which is a quantum-slipstream drive testbed).

The Titan has been seen on one book cover. Supposedly we will get an official image of the Aventine sometime in the near future.

There's also the Challenger class which was seen as a background model at Wolf 359. Personally I'd rather pretend it didn't exist for aesthetic reasons. (See it at Ex Astris Scientia.) Ex Astris actually has a pretty good analysis of the various classes starting here for those inclined.

Lol, I'm exactly opposite.

I love it for aesthetic reasons. ;)

I like the name 'Shelley class' to describe the Curry. Since that ship does look rather Frankenstein-like in its use of kitbashed parts...

As for the Yeager? That ridiculous Maquis raider/Intrepid saucer hybrid which throws away all notions of proper scale? I thought that *was* the class name. Since that ship is so butt ugly, it's probably older than the Saber-class Yeager as well.

Well to each their own. But it is there, so we don't really have a choice to ignore it anyway. :p I just don't like how close the warp nacelles are and seem a bit oversized and how it kinda looks like a lollipop to me.

It'd be nice to pretend that the Yeager was the class that was originally intended to be the Voyager before it got the Lexus treatment. I would think though that the Saber class would be older. Don't those have registries in the 65000s? And with the Voyager style saucer, I would think the Yeager would be towards 73000.

The NX Class should be on there, it's a Starfleet ship.

But not a Federation ship. :)

^^^ I can see why you don't like it, I just get into some of the less conventional designs.
I like the slightly oversized engines a bit and having dual nacelles on top and bottom.

Yeah, just different tastes. I think my favorite Wolf 359 wrecks were the Springfield and Cheyenne. (The 4-nacelled Melbourne wasn't bad either.)

It's a shame things didn't go as planned and we didn't get a Cheyenne for the Pegasus in 'The Pegasus.'

That is possible. Especially since the Klingons seemed to have a new ship design each episode they appeared in on Enterprise.

Then again, when the Romulans appeared in Enterprise, their ships were a modification of the BoP from Balance of Terror and a recycled ship of the week from Voyager.

Yeah, given my obvious fondness for the Romulans that bothered me. A LOT.

I could more easily buy that the D'Deridex/B-type design was such a successful design that they just produced tons of them, perhaps along with a few superficially indistinguishable different classes.
