4 Million Without Power in So Cal

It looks like a worker performing some maintenance work in AZ somehow triggered a power outage that effected everyone from south Orange County, CA to south of the Mexican boarder.

Why can't I help but think of the Toshiba laptop add where the buyer sees some tech dropping the laptop without the hard drive drop protection that causes a massive power failure. That causes milk to go bad and ends up with zombies....

The power came back on for me about 11pm.

Why can't we have cool adverts like that over here?

I used to wonder (often out load) to my Californian ex "why haven't you invested in solar panels?"

He never did give me a reasonable answer...

^Not at APS. Instead, they'll promote him.

Looking at the news article, it looks like he was just replacing a problematic piece of equipment and the power went out when he removed the old part.

Well, I've read it described as "human error" but also that the tech was following procedure. If it's the latter, then it can't really be "human error" on the part of the technician. I guess they are still investigating.

My wife is at a conference in San Diego and told me about this today. She got her talk in, but shortly afterwards the convention center went dead. She searched high and low for a place for dinner, and eventually found a wood fired oven pizza joint.

Big fucking deal....we were without power for over a week. In hot temperatures with storm damage. They lost it for a few hours.

I feel bad for the guy that did this because it was obviously an accident.

Unless...

:shifty:

it wasn't.

You put him up to it, didn't you?

You know that other people dealing with something doesn't actually detract from your own experience, right? I also think this was newsworthy because it involved at least one major city and power was completely out over such a large region.

It may have only been only a 'few hours', but it happened during the NFL opener. With the Green Bay Packers. That easily makes it about 10x worse than say Mount Vesuvius as far as disasters go.

Ooh, yeah, that is really bad timing. I'm not even a huge football fan, but that sounds terrible.
