4 fundamental forces of physics question

Hey everyone,

I am currently in the middle of research for a science fiction /fantasy novel where the magic system is based on the ability of a group of people to manipulate the four fundamental forces of physics. Of these four, coming up with ways that individuals could manipulate gravity and electromagnetism is fairly easy as this has been done before with characters in comics and movies. I am struggling though with coming up with ways that the heros/villians could manipulate the weak and strong nuclear force that is both plausible, somewhat scientifically sound (it is fiction afterall) and creatively helpful (i.e they can't just be turning themselves into fission or fusion bombs). Any help would be greatly appreciated

Transmutation powers come to mind. Through Fusion you create new elements, the reverse through Fission.
Of course the energy requirements would be enourmous and by products like heat and radiation would be huge as well.
But basicall turning lead into gold power.

Not sure this will help much, but -- I am reminded of the series finale of Justice League Unlimited, when Lex Luthor is arguing with Tala over science vs. sorcery.
Tala: Lex, forget bringing back Brainiac.
Luthor: I don't need input from some crystal-gazing parasite. One who's confused a wench's grip on power with the real thing!
Tala: This is the real trouble-maker for us. It's pure vild goose chase. Look, I will prove it. I will show you what is in there.
Luthor: Don't be stupid. This is science. What good is your sorcery? Unless you want to turn stone into gold? Or maybe a frog?
Tala: Such ignorance. Transmutation is what you want to do!
Luthor: Transmutation is <comes to realization> ... what are you waiting for? Do it!
Tala: Okay!
Luthor: Okay!

Luthor later figures out how to link science with sorcery in ways that everyone regrets.
