4 Clip descriptions from Empire *Spoiler heavy*

I'm glad you found it mature. I will refrain from doing so in the future though, no worries, although that sentiment has been thrown about by a fair few people in recent weeks and I doubt I'll be the last to use it.

As has been pointed out previously in other threads, TAS was never "decanonized", just made off limits to refer to for a time because of legal issues with Filmation, especially it's break up and dealing with all the licensed properties they had to sort out.

Once that was sorted out to the lawyers' satisfaction, you will note all the TAS references that started creeping into DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. And, of course, the release of the DVD set, including a brief discussion in the extras of precisely this issue.

Bottom line, TAS is canon, ergo, Captain Robert April's status as the first captain of the Enterprise is canon, as well as the Enterprise's primary components being assembled in San Francisco, not Iowa.

And now that you've used the True Fan card we can easily dismiss you, People who say they are True fans are the worst type of fan you can have because instead of turning that fandom into a social community they turn it into a "Members Only" Club. Art is there for everybody, Trek was and is Art. The art of story telling and it is Modern legend. While some things remain in the legend embelishment and change happen as the story gets passed from generation to generation.

Please. Star Trek is open to anyone. If anyone wants to sit down andwatch any of the five series or ten legitimate movies,...
Soon to be 11 legitimate movies.

...they are more than welcome to do so. And if they enjoy them, I welcome them to the Trek fandom circles and will be glad to call them friend.
Well, isn't that spesul.

However, if someone shows no interest in Trek until they watch a diluted and castrated version of Trek that has registries starting with zero,...
Irrelevant detail only you care about, and none of us other fans.

...single nacelle ships,...
Already canon, and completely valid.

...neglect of iconic characters like April,...
So iconic he's not actually canon. What is your attachment to this character, anyway? Yeesh.

...a hideously redesigned Enterprise...
A matter of opinion. I'm not 100% thrilled with it myself, but it isn't that big a deal.

...and all the other things wrong with this movie,...
Oh no, besides all that? Oh no.

then they are not a Trek fan.
Uh...yeah they are.

I feel sorry for anyone who gets brainwashed into believing this is the pinnacle of entertainment...
I don't think anyone on this entire forum thinks that Trek has ever been the pinnacle of entertainment, period. Also, no one will be brainwashed. They'll either like it or not, and then leave the theator. So save your pity.

...and that it represents what Star Trek is. Star Trek is something wonderful and meaningful. This movie is loud and insulting.

You mean the trailer, right? You haven't seen the movie.

I don't care whether someone on the Internet thinks that I get to be called a "Star Trek fan" or not. I wrote letters to keep it on NBC, damn it, and I was here before most of you.

Oh, and I like what I'm seeing so far. :techman:

Oh man, I heard that giantwingedknome182 thinks you aren't a real Trek fan. Because you apparently "Like Crusher even though Troi is clearly hotter" and "probably smell".

Well, I have it on good authority from a friend at paramount that Dennis smells like "tulips" and is a "planet" though I'm pretty sure he meant to type "plant". And the nacelles rotate.

Soon to be 11 movies. There will still only be 10 legitimate ones.

I like the idea of there being another captian of the Enterprise before Pike. It adds more depth to the Enterprise's backstory, and represents amazing storytelling potential, especially since nothing has been established about April. The opportunities here are awe-inspiringly awesome, but sadly no one, not even supposed fans want to acknoweldge such a character exists.

No, there will be 11 legitimate movies, 10 of which you like. Unless you end up liking it, of course.

Alright, I can see where you're coming from here, but just because Abrams chose not to use the character - or even write him out of canon - doesn't mean he's gone forever. Disappointing? Ok, fine. But it's not a big deal. In 5 years they might make another show with him as Captain. That's the joy of fiction.

So the Academy is now taking twelve year olds?

He looks more like 25, though I guess he's supposed to be around 18-20. You are talking about Kirk, right?

If you were talking about Checkov, beats me.

There's a twelve year difference in Kirk's and Chekov's ages. Do the math. Either Kirk is the oldest human cadet in Starfleet history (in which case, we're also invalidating every reference to his early service, like his time on the Republic and the Farragut), or Chekov enrolled at the Academy sometime around the second or third grade, is currently of junior high age, and is just very very mature for his age. And we're still stuck with invalidating every reference to Kirk's early service record.

So what makes this one any less legitimate than the others? Further, what puts you in the position to declare a movie illegitimate (and no, your previous argument of: "I gave up sex to know Star Trek inside and out" doesn't count as a good reason)?

Are you sure you want him to answer ?
I mean he has clearly seen the movie already so he may say things that will spoil it for you and us....
