3P0's leg

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
Why is C-3P0's right leg below the knee joint silver and the other gold like the rest of him?

I read some stuff on Wookiepedia but it seemed like nonsense to me like his original leg has bad or evil programming or something. Hogwash, I say.

I noticed that in ESB a while ago on Spike. Was it that way in all the movies?

It probably had to be replaced and they could only find a silver one. There was at least one all silver 3PO unit in one of the movies.

Well, his replacement leg had programming embedded in it which overran his normal programming, so that Threepio tried to assassinate Boonda the Hutt. Which doesn't seem too implausible to me. That being said, I never really noticed the color difference much.

I'm sure that there is some complex Expanded Universe answer, but maybe we should just go with the basic. It was all they had or someone screwed up when they ordered the plate.

Remember the silver protocol droid from The Empire Strikes Back? He gave C-3PO his leg after a night of hot gay robot love and 3PO just left the next morning without saying a word. He's fluent in over six million forms of communication, but can't even say goodbye.

That's why he was so pissed on Cloud City. He will not be interfaced with and discarded like a whore-droid.

Good God, this is why I hate the Expanded Universe.

so clearly something must've happened to it in the 19 years between the two films (universe time).

I really hope the new live-action TV show set between RotS and ANH explores this amazing bit of Star Wars folklore in great detail. Perhaps a three or four episode arc, even.

Please, for the love of whatever deity you do or do not worship, do NOT give them any ideas!!!!!

I don't remember the Hutt story, so I can't say if it is good or bad. I had always assumed that the bottom of the leg was cheaper to replace than repair, and he suffered some accident or malfunction before the time of the original movie.

For a moment I thought this thread was going to be about Threepio's legendary Third Leg... ;)

That's one of those abilities they don't mention normally. He can physically communicate too.

I always thought the silver leg was because he was (re)built from scrap parts. He was created by Anakin as a slave then over the subsequent 20 years or so he no doubt had to have repairs or replacements and who knows what kind of care he was given during that time.
