???

Star Trek 11, which is actually just called Star Trek, but is the eleventh feature film to be made. It's a throwback movie featuring new actors playing the original series crew, due in theaters December 25, 2008, directed by J.J. Abrams.

a new movie? cool...but umm...new actors playing the old crew?

this is either going to be very good or very very bad :(

I wonder if they are going to have visual effects like ENT and the newer movies, it just won't be TOS

How did you get through 500+ posts around here without hearing about the new movie? You're pulling our legs, right?

^ to be fair, his last post before today was in august last year, so it's at least possible he's missed the news.

..or resides in one of the townhouses over at Sub-Boulder Estates.

Guys, let's not be too hard on the guy.

I mean, alot of us probably wouldn't know about this film if we didn't post on this board regularly.

I know I wouldn't. Between TiVo and satellite radio, I rarely see advertising of ANY kind anymore. And I don't follow the lives of any current celebrities or read People magazine either.

Such news might be old news around HERE - news that you'd have to have been living under a rock to have missed...but to the general public, it's an entirely different matter. ;)

The important word there is 'old'. Some are already gone sadly, and the rest, well The Undiscovered Country was a movie too far IMO as far as credibility went.

Providing they capture the tone and character of the original series, I have no problem with them recasting the roles.

Indeed, as I can attest in my conversations with the general public. The followng is reconstructed from many actual conversations. Minor dramatic license is taken.

Kegek: Did you know there's going to be a new Star Trek film?
Joe Public: Patrick Stewart's too old.
Kegek: It won't have Patrick Stewart. It's the crew from the old show, recast.
Joe Public: Oh, god, that's so geeky. I can't believe they're making another one.
Kegek: Oh yeah? Well, that 'Sylar' guy from Heroes is Spock.
Joe Public: Heroes?
Kegek: Yeah, I have no idea what that is either... uh... um... it's got Eric Bana.
Joe Public: Who?
Kegek: Avner in Munich.
Joe Public: In what?
Kegek: The Hulk.
Joe Public: Oh. Okay.
Kegek: Winona Ryder's in it.
Joe Public: (yawns) Are you going to rant about A Scanner Darkly again?

One of mine too, actually. But it gets slated quite a bit on here, I've found. Particularly the forced mind meld scene, Shakespeare quoting Klingons and the scene with the books of Klingon. The Nick Meyer touch doesn't go down well with everyone. most of the criticisms are fair actually, but i stubbornly like it anyway :)

what is ST: XI exactly?

There is no Star Trek Eleven, or Star Trek XI.

"Star Trek" is a long awaited and well deserved reboot of the Star Trek franchise. Keeping the essential ingredients, and respecting many aspects of what the main stream knows about Star Trek, this new film will literally take us where no fan has gone before. Get ready, because everything you think you know about Star Trek is about to explode in a warp core breach, on Stardate 12.25.08.

Is that a commerical or something? ;) If there's one thing nobody really knows for certain at this point, it's if the film is going to be a bang or a whimper. Sure, a lot of us act like we know, and certainly based on the previous history of the collaborators we can make fair 'guesstimates', but that ain't the same thing...

That sounds like my conversations (down to the bit about A Scanner Darkly).
