A quick heads up for TMP fans in the L.A. area. I've already reached out to the venue via their forum here; I hope to encourage a thorough vetting of the print to be screened as I know the New Beverly management cares about presentation quality. The last L.A. screening of TMP at the Egyptian last fall was a disaster: a horribly faded and tattered original release print. I walked out after the first reel; it was that bad. Paramount obviously (but inexplicably) has little to no regard for TMP these days, so finding an acceptable print may be problematic. There's this print and the 25 year-old "hybrid" print with most of the SLV scenes included, but it too is quite tattered and the audio is particularly poor (not even Dolby stereo as far as I could tell). I'm not expecting miracles here, but I sincerely hope another, significantly better print can be obtained.
Also note that this is a double-bill with Disney's The Black Hole -- another genre favorite from the same month (December 1979). Thankfully I know there's a great 35mm print of this one; should be no worries there.
