35 Songs Hollywood Needs To Stop Using

Was this song on the list? If not it should be.

Oh yeah, definitely! I'd forgotten about that one!

Another one that isn't overused necessarily, just improperly used, is Secret Agent Man. Unless you're doing a TV show starring Patrick McGoohan as John Drake, you shouldn't use it!

Another song I'm going to add is one that pops up on Doctor Who quite often but I've also heard it elsewhere. I have no idea who recorded it, but there's a modern-day remake of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer that must have either slipped into public domain or the owners cut a sweet deal for its use. I've heard it pop up in the "we need a generic non-religious Christmas song" slot once too often.

(Doctor Who also has a fetish for another overused Christmas carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, but I let that one pass because it counts as an in-joke dating back to the Jon Pertwee era which revealed it shares its melody with a lullaby from Venus that can be used to put monsters to sleep!)

That was one thing I really liked about Shutter Island--the freshness of its soundtrack.
That was rad. It really reminded me of one of those creepy 60s/70s horror films that I used to watch late-night on Channel 4 as a kid.

I seem to have heard Kings & Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars (or part there of) a lot recently on tv in both shows and adverts.

What is that piece from Excalubur - probably by Wanger - that's used for every period action film trailer?

That's "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana, previously mentioned in the thread; it was by Orff, not Wagner.

I didn't recognize about half the songs on that list.
