33

So at this age I'm supposed to be accomplishing stuff, right? New Zealand legend Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Everest. Jesus died and came back. Michael Bay made Armageddon.

I feel like it's that point in life when you do need a challenge. Not that raising twins is a challenge enough, but something bigger.

Any thoughts?

You're doing better that I am. When I was 33, my mom died, six days after my birthday it was. In fact it was eight years and two days ago today. Suffice it to say, it was the worst thing that ever happened in my life.

So far, anyhow.

But, looking at you're list, I haven't accomplished any of that stuff either. Not even the twins. but, I wouldn't consider that an accomplishment so much as I would a sad mistake, given my lifestyle.

On the other hand, I have decided to finish writing my sci-fi novel and get it published. I have been working toward this goal for several months now.

I wouldn't worry. I'm sure you're doing fine. Has somebody told you you are worthless because you haven't done something? My dad and brother LOVED to do that with me. it's one of the reasons we don't speak anymore.

That was my long-winded way of saying everybody's different. just live your life and to hell with what everybody else thinks.

Has somebody told you you are worthless because you haven't done something?

First, sorry for the pain you felt those years ago.

Second, no, I've just always known Edmund Hillary was 33 when he knocked the bastard off and always wondered if I would have an "Everest".

An Everest doesn't just happen. It was the culmination of years of desire and planning.

What have you been desiring and planning for all these years? What might the culmination of that look like?

I remember reading a newspaper article forever back now that said 29 was a common age for a lot of famous people to have achieved success. For some reason that's always stuck with me.

Anyway, you're still young, and you're never too old to accomplish something great, no matter what your idea of success is. Find something you want to do, and go for it.

"Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment."

Seems like good advice, even if it is rhetorical nonsense.

By age 33, I had seen combat, traveled much of the globe and was President and CEO of a national corporation. Of course much of that drive was because I believed I would die by age 35... so I just went for it.

It could be worse. I am 41 and I still don't like leaving the house.

Nobody can give you any ideas about what to do. If you are going to accomplish it it has to be something that comes from a desire within you, something you feel passionate about or else there is no way you'll follow through to completion on it.

You are never too old to achieve something worthwhile.

Cliff Young was 61 years old when he ran and won the Sydney to Melbourne Ultra Marathon in 1983.

And grandma Moses was in her 70s before she started painting.

My next "Everest" is to come out of my self-imposed isolation and actually connect with the world again. Outside of a computer, I mean.

My goal is only to survive and make a decent living. Beyond that, I have very little ambition. Oh yeah, and I also want to see every baseball park in the major leagues. That's my REAL goal. :techman:

I don't have an Everest. Now that I am more or least retired I am happy to just go with the flow and enjoy life as it comes. No real challenges but no real worries either.

And here i was thinking this thread was going to be about being attacked by cylons every 33 minutes!

I'm not sure what my everest is, i feel like a directionless loser most of the time. However i then watch Community and it makes me feel better :)
