30 YEARS WITH OUT KIRK?

In Generations, a reporter asks Kirk how he feels about having the first Enterprise in 30 years with out james kirk on board. Wouldn't that make Kirlk close to 75-80 years old? Can someone point me to where I can find a time line between TUC and Generations?

Er....He became Captain at age 31.

Which would mean he was only in his early 60's.

Which would coincide with Shatner's approximate age at the time, too.

Unless dispatcher812 thought the reporter meant it had been 30 years since TUC and Kirk captained the Enterprise... which would be incorrect. It hasn't been 30 years. It was the first ship in the past 30 years (during which time Kirk commanded every vessel named Enterprise) that a ship named Enterprise was in service under someone else's command.

Which even then, is technically incorrect, as Kirk had lost command when he took promotion to Admiral, during which time Decker technically commanded her. Gave up command when he retired from SF prior to TWOK, during which time Spock commanded her. And was not in 'formal' assigned command during TWOK or TSFS, only regaining 'formal' assigned command in TVH's final moments...

The point is; the reporter did not mean it had been 30 years since the Enterprise-A retired under Kirk in TUC. He meant 30 years since Pike had been Captain of the Enterprise - a 30 year period which saw James T. Kirk as the most prominent Captain of the Starship Enterprise.
