<3 Ricky Gervais

I wouldn't watch the Golden Globes award ceremony even if I got paid for it, but it sounds like Gervais did pretty well pissing off Hollywood.

More here and here

My favourite:
BEST: Ricky Gervais completes his suicide run with a jab at religion
Just when you thought he was finished, Gervais delivered one final zinger: ''And thank you to God for making me an atheist!'' Yup, that should just about wrap up his goal of offending every single person in the world. Anyone want to place bets on whether Gervais will be back next year?

American comedy must be in a really bad place if Gervais' jokes have had such an effect. Making fun of Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Scientologists, Christians, box office flops and Hugh Hefner? Hardly cutting edge stuff. More like shooting fish in a barrel.

Since this is his second stint presenting the GG's I don't think there are any surprises. Also, the idea that this will do anything to his career is laughable. This is a media invented story.

Gervais had earlier said of Downey jnr: "He has done all those films, but many of you in this room probably know him from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail."

He call Bruce Willis "Ashton Kutcher's dad", ridiculed Sylvester Stallone's "extraordinary acting versatility ... He has played a boxer and Rambo", and poked fun at the ages of Sex and the City 2's stars: "I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster."

I don't know who Ashton Kutcher is so that one goes right by me, but the others are great.

In any case, if there's anyone who could use a little less sunshine being blown up their asses, I expect it's these folks.

Much like the Eminem stunt at MTV awards a few years back, it's what they wanted, it gets them huge publicity.

I didn't watch it either, but was cracking up when I saw the transcript of it. Loved it. And saw it on the news.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore used to be married and had a bunch of children; then they got divorced, and Moore married Cutcher who's 20 yougner and some typical Hollywood douchebag.

But I also think it's nonsense that this could hurt Gervais; there's one thing Hollywood loves more than anything else, money, and Gervais is good at delivering it.

Quite, besides you'd have to be a total moron to hire Gervais and not expect him to do this. This is precisely why they keep hiring him.

I think he was on Daily Show right before the GGs and Stewart commented on the fact that people thought his recent hosting gig was too tame by his standards so Ricky promised he'd be a lot more free wheeling this time. Mission accomplished ;)

^^ "Sad little fat man..." - David Bowie on "Extras"...

That said, it seems as if Ricky has been doing some working out/dieting.. Good on him!

No one cares about this fucking bullshit!

The only reason why people are bitching is because he made fun of "famous" people. Heaven forbid people tell the truth!

It's an award show about bragging about how awesome these people are and the host put them in their place by simply telling the truth.

The American people loved it, the only people that didn't were the ones in the room who can't take a joke and think they are better than the rest of us.

Deckerd is right, it's just the papers. They say exactly the same stuff every time he presents an awards show, and yet people keep hiring him.

I think acerbic, edgy humour gets a better public reception in boom times. In a recession/depression, people seem to like softer, less edgy comedy.
