That's just horrible. My condolences to all concerned.

Cheers. This really is one hell of a national tragedy.
I hope this latest incident vindicates the decisions made by those in charge of rescue operations. Going in gung ho in such a volatile environment may well have left many more dead.
I can understand the families' grief but I think that their criticism of the rescue is mainly unwarranted. The rescuers couldn't enter the mine until the conditions in the mine were known. The NZ rescuers were no more cautious than the rescuers were in the Chilean or Beaconsfield rescues and it those rescues it was days before anyone knew that the miners were alive (6th day in Beaconsfield and on the 17th in the Chilean mine).
That is such terrible news.
I kneww it would be tricky and hard, but I was so hoping it would the results would be different.

I hope at least they can get in soon and retrieve the bodies. Is the mine now completely destroyed or are parts of it still workable?

Structurally should still be workable. Unfortunately with the gas pockets now actively seeping into the mine it could be months before it's safe to go in.
