260000 Boffo?

maybe this was brought up before, but I read that Superman/Batman Public Enemies DVD sold 260,000 copies in the first two weeks...is that a good number? Because I think it is. What does the average DVD animated thing sale? How do the Marvel titles do???

Rob

Yes, those are very strong sales. Warner Premiere is already developing a sequel to Superman/Batman: Public Enemies because of how strong the sales have been. And bear in mind that those are just the DVD sales and don't include Blu-ray sales (the data for which is much harder to come by).

The DVD sales for the last few DC and Marvel DTVs in their first two weeks are:

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies - 256,737 units
Hulk Vs - 244,321
Green Lantern: First Flight - 206,464
Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow - 92,584

Does DC's DVDs usually out-sale Marvel??

I hope the new JLA DVD does well. I liked New Frontier, but felt it really needed another half-hour to really get the 'tone' of that great comic-book version.

The ranking of sales for DC and Marvel DTVs is a mixture between the two driven by the popularity of various characters. In dollar terms the ranking of the DTVs in DVD sales currently looks like this:

1. Superman: Doomsday - $9,397,335
2. Batman: Gotham Knight - $8,016,438
3. Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther - $7,777,554
4. Ultimate Avengers - $6,674,208
5. Hulk Vs - $6,263,757
6. The Invincible Iron Man - $5,220,713
7. Justice League: The New Frontier - $5,202,950
8. Wonder Woman - $5,202,787
9. Green Lantern: First Flight - $4,829,876
10. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies - $4,276,981
11. Doctor Strange - $3,881,588
12. Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow - $3,022,544

That's just revenue from DVD sales and doesn't include revenue from Blu-ray sales or DVD and Blu-ray rentals. The budget range for the DC DTVs is $3 million to $3.5 million. Green Lantern: First Flight and especially Superman/Batman: Public Enemies will obviously continue to add to their sales quite a bit since they're newer releases. Also, Wonder Woman has bucked the usual trend and despite starting off with lower first-week sales than the other DC titles has held up very well over time and is still selling well. It should surpass Justice League: The New Frontier and The Invincible Iron Man in total DVD revenue in the next week or so. Hulk Vs is also continuing to sell well.

Thanks for this info. You are definately the got to person on this.

Here is one...don't laugh. Is it worth the extra $$$ to get them on Bluray (or Greenray as my son insisted when we got GL). Since the animation is digital, i guess, why would Bluray make it better???

I used to wonder this myself, but the Blu-Ray DOES make a difference. The colors look better, the lines are a bit sharper and the whole thing just pops. Fewer digital artifacts, too.

I do get them on Bluray. I used to wonder if my mind just convinces me their better, you know what I mean?

But I will say this. When I watch old DVDs on my bluray, like Hawaii Five-0, they just seem to look better for some reason...
