Excelsior doesn't need a refit.
Frankly the design is Timeless and futuristic no matter what century.

Starfleet(meaning the studios) wasted a lot of time designing ships to fill the role of an already perfect Starfleet design in the Excelsior class.

That is hideous... just hideous.

And even more stupid looking then the B-refit and the Sovereign, it has even more impulse engines aimed right at the nacelle pylons, that thing can't leave dock without blowing the warp engines right off.

What about just using advances in materials used in warp coils so it can get the same field effect with 18 instead of 26?

^^ Thats a posibility but you'd need a new M/AM reactor system then as well, as for more updates, some strip phasers instead of ball turrets and a fresh coat of paint would do it.

What excelsior needs is a restructure of it's interior. The PTS lke and warp core are precariously placed.

OTOH, knowing the people in charge of STO, I'm sure this'd be their top choice for the new Enterprise...
