International dateline vaguery.

The first broadcast of Doctor Who was delayed for 1/2 and hour for a special news report on the assassination of JFK. We can assume that Ian and Barbara were entering the TARDIS in Totters Lane, when the TV announcer during Remembrance of the Daleks was preparing the audience for the first broadcast of An Unearthly Child, and Davros was running around and the Hand of Omega was stowed away at a funeral parlour and...

Nine was half way around the world watching Kennedy getting his head blown off as detailed in Rose.

Seems like an accident waiting to happen having so many Doctors floating around the same minutes almost on top of each other.
 
How many are present on Earth during New Year's 1999? I think the books, audios, and TVM place multiple incarnations around the globe (but I'm not certain it's exactly New Years, except for the TVM). So, I'm thinking he know/remembers to stay out of his own way.

But, I like the idea that Nine was watching the assassination, even as Ian and Barbara were following Susan to Totter's Lane. The next morning, the 7th Doctor, Ace, and the Daleks all arrive...

Don't forget when 9 and Rose saw themselves when Rose went to the moment her dad died.
 
I don't remember but was it ever mentioned what happened to the original Doctor and Rose during that moment or were they simply erased from the timeline?

The novel Millennium Shock takes place right on New Year's Eve/Day, featuring the fourth Doctor. And according to the audio dramas, Iris Wildthyme is also mucking about in San Francisco at the same time.

It's daylight during that TV annoucement - a well known error since it would have been nearly dark by then. But apart from that Remembrance would have to take place afterwards otherwise that Dalek could have Exterminated Ian & Barbara - which could have led to no end of trouble!

Lucky the teachers didn't go down to the cellar either :D
 
An Unearthly Child was scheduled for 5:15 in Radio Times. The actual broadcast started just after 5:16, which cannot really be called a delay for a programme with a duration of 23 minutes, since it still fits within its timeslot. The Quiz Book was wrong, I'm afraid, regurgitating an old fan myth. As for Sylvester McCoy's comment - he's a bit confused about the fact that the first episode was repeated the following week, immediately before the second went out. This was nothing particularly to do with the Kennedy assassination - it was because a power blackout on the 23rd meant that a lot of people had missed the episode, and the BBC wanted to give the new series another chance to capture its audience.
 
To point out the obvious, An Unearthly Child went out on Saturday November 23rd, but it can't happen on that date, as Saturday isn't a schoolday. It can't happen on a Friday either, as Susan's been set homework that's due in the next day. (as a follow up, try to work out the dating of Rose by factoring in National Lottery draws and Sunday shopping hours).
