2018 Releases

I've posted in the Disco' thread, but the second Discovery novel is listed on Amazon UK for early February - so we can fill the February slot.
I don't think it can, we got both Desperate Hours and Original Sin this month. The DSC books, or at least Desperate Hours, are Trade Paperbacks, which are released by Gallery Books rather than Pocket, and aren't part of the Pocket schedule.

I have to admit, I'd been pretty patient up this point, but it is getting annoying that we only have two months, or three going by the publication calendar, until 2018 and we still haven't heard anything about the books, beyond the second DISC book and the VOY book that was postponed from this year.

I see that Chapters has a December 31, 2018 release for a Discovery #1 ebook by David Mack. Not sure if it’s just a reprint of “Desperate Hours” or what’s going on.

But I do like the cover art for Cross Cult’s February 2018 release of Greg Cox’s “The Weight Of The World’s. Whether in English or German, this book has received one of the best pieces of cover art in the last decade.

Does the German edition have a different cover than the original American one? Where can I see it?

It's funny. I used to have a ritual. Whenever a book was finally published, I would toss out all the old drafts, copyedits, page proofs, Post-It notes, etc.

Not quite as satisfying now that everything is done electronically! :)

Apologies for the small hijack, but I’ve always wondered what people did with unused or discarded drafts. I guess it would depend on the person, but I’m curious how often unused ideas get reworked or recycled versus thrown away for good.

Confession: my story in the Dominion War anthology started out as a chapter I cut from the Q Continuum trilogy. I reworked it for the anthology years later. Similarly, several of my short stories and novellas are based on rejected VOYAGER pitches . . . .

Waste not, want not!

I remembering reading that in Voyages of the Imagination, and it's one of those things that's always stuck with me - keep the cut stuff stored for a rainy day, maybe you can repurpose it for something else.

Nothing new here. Bram Stoker took an excised chapter from Dracula and turned it into a separate short story, "Dracula's Guest."

so... nothing new yet for 2018 :sigh:

Someone at the The Star Trek Books Community Group on FB mentioned that this bears similarity to when the Doctor Who audio dramas (Doctor Who: The Monthly Range) ended when the new series started back in 2005.. :(

I doubt they're ending since they just announced the new contract will allow them to use stuff from the Kelvinverse movies now. I'm thinking either there are still a few "i"s that need to be dotted and "t"s that need to be crossed, or they're waiting to make some kind of a big announcement somewhere.

...that didn't happen? Big Finish has chugged along without a break every month since 2000.

Maybe he meant novels? IIRC, the Eighth Doctor Past Doctor lines from BBC Books did end in 2005 because of the show's return.
I was mentioning what a member of the FB group said, and I think he did mean the PDA and EDA novel lines.

Yeah, or we could just start panicking over the end of the current era of the litverse. Whose up for a panic-party??
Why panic?, just not happy that nothing has been announced yet..
