2018 March Madness Yahoo Group!

Have a bracket in my work group, later will add to this one.

Has anyone here ever played a bracket game where they change the scoring to encourage variety? Like, something that gives more points for upsets? Simplest implementation is just multiplying round points by seed. One idea I have is instead of that, you multiply it by an odds system. Whether it be betting odds or computer model win percentage. So if a computer model (Whether it be BPI, FiveThirtyEight, whatever) gave a team 75% to win, you get .75 times the base points for picking the underdog and .25 times the base points for picking the favorite.

This way you're basically picking against the computer, instead of just picking the victors. You're not betting that the underdog will win, you're betting the underdog has a greater chance to win than the computer said. Has anyone ever seen a tournament set up in a way like this?

Well, considering my attempts to start a conversation in this forum about this season has completely fallen on its face (twice!), I'm not so surprised, unfortunately.
 
I joined. There isn't a lot of people but oh well. Basketball and Hockey are not as big as Baseball and Football.

I would love to see like a college football madness tournament. Yeah we have the final four, but increase it to like sweet 16 and use the various bowl sites as tournament spots. It can run the entire month of December and really make the holidays special.
 
Sweet! I got the first upset with Loyola-Chicago defeating Miami (FL)! :D

Makes up for Gonzaga nearly screwing me over. I have them going to the Final Four and they nearly lost to UNC-G.

It was a pretty good game though. I was hoping Oklahoma would pull it out. Still nice to start the tournament with a very entertaining game.
 
Looks like all of you picked Virginia to win. I picked Villanova, so my path to victory is clear!

And yeah, Gonzaga needs to get on top of their shit.
 
Yeah, one of my final four out on the first day.

A good friend of mine is a huge Arizona basketball fan (she went there).

Believe me, she got some strongly worded texts last night...

I'm breathing a sigh of relief that I chose none of the schools that lost to advance past the next round. My bracket isn't completely destroyed, just slightly cut.
 
Yup, same here. Just minor hits so far.

Of course, that just means today is going to be a bloodbath. :lol:
 
That is the sound of tens of thousands of fans screaming in anguish as their brackets burn to the ground.

Not only did 16 UMBC make history by beating 1 Virginia (and the number one team in the nation), they did it by winning by TWENTY POINTS!
