2016 College Football

So, an interesting start to the season already! My alma mater, Georgia Tech, got a last minute go-ahead touchdown to win over Boston College this morning. It was odd to have to wake up for a 6:30 AM game, since it was played in Dublin, Ireland!

And it looks like there are several interesting games later today: Alabama vs USC, Auburn vs Clemson, Georgia vs UNC (closely ranked)

Any other interesting games to look forward to?

The Houston/Oklahoma game was good. Already an upset!

Go Trojans!!!

And LSU goes down.

Maybe my Beloved Trojans have a chance after all!

:techman:

ETA: Or maybe not....

No idea what was going on with FSU in the first half, but they pulled themselves together for the second half.

And in general, what's up with all the flagrant personal fouls? There were at least two players ejected that I know of (LSU and USC). I'm glad the refs dealt with it immediately, but the coaches need to have some serious talks with their players.

Was at the Syracuse home opener the other day, damn that was a fast offense. Not sure how sustainable it was, but interesting to watch and makes for a quick game. Snapping the ball at about 34 on the play clock, on average...

Texas played the same way against Notre Dame

That was a great game. We gots ourselves a quarterback!
A true freshman with that kind of poise, ability to run, good decision making, and ability to take hits and still deliver is not easy to find. He is a star, and I like his low key nature. What's great is that teams won't be able to stack the box against Dalvin Cook (who turns out to be a pretty good receiver) so it will open up a two dimensional offensive strategy that will be hard to beat.
Our defense looked pretty good in the second half too, and I hope they can sustain that through the next few weeks of cupcake teams.
All in all it restored my faith in the 'Noles and I think we can make the playoffs, especially with Clemson looking weak and uninspired versus a not so good Auburn team.

@1001001 The "up-tempo" offense trend looks good on paper, but I don't think its sustainable in the long run. It wears out your offensive players, the kids aren't able to stay on target and move smoothly at that pace for 4 quarters, so there will be mistakes, and it wears out your own defensive players because they get very little time on the bench.

it's like most things. When it works, it works great, Until it doesn't.

If you end up with a lot of 3 and outs you're screwed. But if you're mowing over people and scoring a ton (remember the glory days at Oregon?) thern it's a great idea.

Me, I'd rather use it selectively. Pick your times to go no-huddle based on game conditions and personnel.

But...no one asked me.

:)

They should. I'd rather listen to you than Kirk Herbstreit. ;)

Not too many surprises this past weekend, except for LSU giving head coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron the boot! I know there were rumblings of that last year, but I haven't heard of this happening so early in the season.

FSU needs to fire Charles Kelly. Looks like this will be a "rebuilding" year, and considering the strength or our remaining schedule we will be doing good to get to 10 wins.

Heading out soon for the USC/Colorado game. Hopefully we've got the right QB now and can score a win at home.

Washington Huskies absolutely STOMP the Oregon Ducks 70-21 at Oregon after a strong performance against Stanford last week. I'm begining to get a really good feeling about our chances this year,
