2015 NBA Draft/Off-season Thread

Holy smokes: Clips and Mavs in a race toward the bottom in recent trades!

Chris Paul's got to be doing some foot stompin' right about now... :D

^The last year of Paul's contract (2017-18) is a player option; I've a feeling he's going to be opting out in two years. The Clippers just got significantly worse by allowing Jordan to get away.

I don't know what the Mavs are doing. They upgraded by replacing Chandler with Jordan but allowed Monta Ellis to sign with the Pacers. Wes Matthews is a nice player but isn't suited for a large role, which he'll have to play in Dallas.

Rajon Rando has agreed to deal with the Kings, and Aldridge is waiting a few days before making a decision about his future.

Rondo to Kings: No guts, no glory. Got to take that chance, kudos to Vlade. And the Belinelli signing wasn't half bad either.

Aldridge puzzles me with his vacillating--I mean sometimes there is such a thing as overthinking things.

Want a title and continuity? Spurs. Want... not sure what the Suns are offering. Want to stay at home like Gasol in Memphias? Do that.

But my God, decide already.

Yeah, major blow losing Jordau. Clips are really in trouble. This is the kind of thing that was supposed to end when Ballmer bought. This may also hasten the end of Doc's tenure as well. His presence was also thought to be a deterrent to losing guys like DJ.

Rondo and George Karl. This is going to be a 3 ring circus. Rondo is near uncoachable and Karl insists on ...coaching. I can't wait to watch the fireworks. :)

^Will Karl even be there? There were rumors flying during the draft that the Kings were considering firing him. It sounded like ownership was pushing for the change as opposed to Divac, but it sounded like his departure was eminent.

That will be interesting indeed... what might just make it work, if Karl stays, is that both men are looking at legacy.

Karl wants to move up on the list of HOF coaches, and Rondo wants to rehabilitate his brand, so it behooves both of them to get along.

Frankly, I think the Kings got fleeced by the Sixers. I'm not sure Rondo makes up for that. The 8th overall pic last year, a top ten protected draft pick and the Sixers option to swap draft picks twice (meaning, if the Kings are worse than they are, they can take the Kings's pick instead). I get that they wanted to make a move in free agency and Nik Stauskas wasn't playing all that well last year, but it seems a pretty high price for what they're getting in return.

The Sixers, on the other hand, not only acquired more draft picks (as they like to do), but they actually acquired a player to fill a hole for a change.

Please, I don't remotely think the Sixers will be good. They need a Point Guard and a bench and, even then, I'm talking about next year, not this year (I'm assuming Dario Saric will sign with the Sixers next season to play the 3 and Nik Stauskas will be the starting 2 guard). But they acquired a player they plan on keeping who fills a need. Even if it were somehow incidental to a trade for draft picks, it's pretty good (and considering they gave up two of their 30 million second round picks to do it shows they gave up essentially nothing).

I meant hope for the Kings turning a corner and returning to their 1999-2006 form with Vlade as GM and that new arena. Thus rendering the picks moot...

But that depends on Karl and Boogie burying the hatchet and moving forward.

Lamarcus Aldridge to the SPURS. Tectonic shift.

^The Spurs dynasty will apparently continue for some time to come, with Aldridge and Leonard gradually taking the reigns from the Big 3.

David West was interested in the Spurs, but they don't need him now that Aldridge has made his decision, so I guess he'll take the Wizards offer.

The Spurs are a great example of a competently run franchise (in a good way, the Patriots of the NBA). They've shown a great skill at adapting to a new generation, while still using their core of a great player and great coach. I do want to point out that they started their success by tanking :p

 This is something I point out to Spurs' fans (and also non-Spurs fans) and they get livid. They just don't want to admit/believe that their oh so perfect Spurs "stooped" so low way back in the day -- but they did.

I'm still in "show me" mode with respect to the Spurs. In other words, show me a Spurs team in the Finals without Timmy and Tony.

BTW, Alidar, tanking alone won't get it done, you need some luck, like Duncan coming out when the Spurs had tanked into the No. 1 pick,

Yeah, I don't think tanking alone can do it (which is why I maintain that the Sixers don't rely on tanking alone, but a combination of shitty teams, smart trades (like this Kings trade), smart late picks (like foreign players whose value is lower because they aren't coming to the NBA for a couple of years - like Dario Saric), and finding diamonds in the rough through free agency.

It all may fail miserably, but it isn't as simplistic as getting a good draft pick through sucking.

So, with Timmy, Tony, Kawhi, Manu, LMA, and now D. West, the Spurs have what amounts to a "super team' and become the odds on favs to win the championship this coming season.

Wonder how Pop really feels about this. Sometimes super teams work out and sometimes not. This is going to be VERY interesting to watch.

Gonna start referring to him as "DeAndrea". What a drama queen. This team already has one of the premiere DQ's on the team in Paul Pierce and now DJ. Let the telenovella begin.

Have to say that I'm enjoying watching Marc Cuban with egg on his face. Could not have happened to a more deserving guy. Mavs fans practically burned down twitter whining last night.

Cuban let Chandler go to the Suns and had Marc known sooner that Deandrea really wanted to stay with his first love, who previously had broken his heart because they were just so mean, he might have gone after Roy Hibbert. Heh, heh.

Love it. ;)
