Should have been suspended for the remainder of the postseason, given the malicious nature of his slide, but Joe Torre is just going to chuckle a bit, then clench his chin, and say, "Well, you know, there's stuff, but you know, Utley did a thing, and there's baseball, and there's baserunning, and..."
And for the record, Coghlan's slide against Kang in Pittsburgh was equally as dirty:

I think that Coghlan GIF suffers for lack of a relative base path - he wasn't *that* far outside of it as the sequence shows. Utley also started sliding about 6" before the base - far different from Coghlan.
That said, I wouldn't have been surprised if Coghlan had been suspended - the Dodger fan pravda sites have been showing images of other players doing the same or worse. (Cub fans have one of Kang doing basically the same thing and the other player jumps)
Something had to be the catalyst for baseball to maybe possibly do something - I guess knocking out an NY player in an NLDS game (in the 'swinging the result' inning) was it.

If Jeter had been injured by a takeout slide ten years ago, Selig would have decreed that such slides were an automatic fifteen-game suspension.

Despite Arrieta's wildness, giving up the first runs in just about forever, the only long balls have been from Schwarber & Castro.
And now Bryant, though the wind had very little to do with it. 4-2 Cubs.

Miguel Montero literally saw four balls in his most recent at-bat, and the count was 2-2.
We seriously need a version of QuesTec or something to take over ball-strike duty because the strike zone this postseason (not just with the Cubs, but across the entire bracket) has been ridiculous.

How accurate is that pitch-trax thing? If it's 100%, the calls have been terrible and inconsistent.
Heyward hits a 2 run bomb. Cubs 5-4. Arrieta is done for the night. He was pretty wild (for him).
2 run dinger for Soler. Cubs 7-4.
Fowler hits the Cubs' record sixth dinger. Cubs 8-4.
