Kyle Schwarber golfs too.

That's practically a Happy Gilmore swing. Schwarber is the best lummox.

Also, after how salty both teams got with throwing at each other last month, I'm expecting mayhem to break out at some point during this Cubs / Cards series.

Well, not tonight anyway.

I think Maddon left Lester in an inning too long, but then the Cubs woulda lost 2-0 instead of 4-0.

Schwarber had 2 of the Cubs 3 hits, Lackey basically "Arrieta'd" the Cubs.

We'll get 'em tomorrow.

The Rangers are taking it to the Blue Jays.
Got to love it.

The ump helped them today, what a brutal strike zone!

The only thing worse was listening to Bob Costas and his hack partner sit around and sing Texas' glory all day and the complete opposite of Toronto.

Worse than what Whitesox fans have to deal with every day on TV? That must be bad.

Did you see the strike zone in the Mets & Dodgers game? That was brutal and not consistent. If it was consistent you can deal.

I saw a lot of inconsistent strike calls in tonight's Cubs-Cards game too. Why won't MLB monitor this type of thing and do something about it?

Cubs even up the series with the Cardinals, but where was Rondon's wicked slider? Was he too amped up to throw it?

The commissioner is a Selig acolyte - do you think anything will get done? Possibly he'll commission a 20-year-long study after which nothing will get done anyway.

After last night and other things this season people are clamoring for a look at the 'take out' slides to break up double plays. What do you think baseball will do? After the "catcher's interference" action I doubt anything.

^ At the very least they should remind Utley that this is BASE ball. Hear that, Chase? It's the big white thing you're supposed to slide into. Not five feet behind it.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The most frustrating part of the whole thing is that there is a rule against shit like Utley's slide (and Coghlan's a few weeks ago):

It's just that it never gets called. Utley slid knees-first straight into Tejada and wasn't even sliding in the general direction of the base, for God's sake.

I don't exactly expect the Mets to retaliate. (This is the playoffs, after all, and they don't want to get Harvey thrown out or suspended.) But I can't say I'd lose any sleep over it if they did.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Of course you wouldn't, because you think throwing a hard object at another human being is a justified part of a game.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Justified? Maybe I shouldn't go that far, but it IS a part of the game. You can protest it all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that it does happen.

It's a "part of the game" in that it's macho bullshit dating back to the '20s that has literally no place in the game anymore, much like Utley's slide. Cocaine use in the clubhouse was considered "part of the game" back in the '80s, should we bring that back, too?

With how easy it is for a ball to get away from a pitcher (see the Cubs / Cardinals series a few weeks ago, or when Giancarlo Stanton's face exploded), there is no excuse whatsoever for intentionally throwing a ball at another human being. Any pitcher who does so, and any manager who orders it, is a goddamn manchild.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ But as you yourself admitted a few posts earlier, there was also no excuse for Utley sliding the way he did. Whose side are you on, anyway?

The side of "don't do stupid shit that can endanger another human being when you're getting paid a ton of money to play a stupid game."

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

I think the slide was against the rules and I don't want any retaliation. Win games 3 & 4, that's all the retaliation we need.

ETA: Rodger Clemens hit Mike Piazza several times, you know how he got back? He owned him, hitting some majestic home runs.
