Hard to think the Reds ownership was unaware of it, the Reds should be punished, even if it was 3 owners ago.

That would be kind of like sanctioning President Clinton for war crimes for acts authorized during the Reagan Administration.

As recently as a few months ago, Rose was insisting that he only bet on baseball as a manager, never as a player.

(And if Rose was betting money on 1986 Pete Rose to help win games then he's as big an idiot as he is a liar.)

Man, fuck that guy. The only thing worse than people arguing for Pete Rose’s reinstatement is Fay Vincent pretending he still has relevancy in 2015.

I don't think Rose really cares. It's all a scam to raise the value of those stupid "Charlie Hustle" autographs he signs on anything that isn't moving - at the moment.

In today's installment of "pitcher wins are a meaningless statistic":

Last nine starts for Zack Greinke:

60.1 IP
50 H
10 BB
54 K
1.79 ERA
Opponents' OPS of .616

Record: 0-2 with seven no-decisions.

^ Maddux's stats were a lot like that in his second Cubs stint.

Great stats, no run support, so lots of losses.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Per Jon Heyman, Andy MacPhail to the Phillies to work with Gillick is a done deal and will be announced soon.

That sound you just heard was the rest of the NL going, "Aw, fuck."

As bad as the Phillies have been, they have some interesting pieces (Franco) who will eventually form the core of a more competitive team down the line. McPhail being there will make that happen sooner rather than later.

Mr. Franco sure has been handing it to the Yankees. Good young player.

Did you see Hamels bitch at the dugout when a ground ball was hit right where the 2nd baseman normally plays got through because of the shift?

The announcers said, "I wonder if he happy when the shift helps him"

:guffaw:

Nova sure looked outstanding last night. One of the easiest 95 MPH fastballs in the league. Hope he holds up.

Took the bloody Brewers long enough to close the Miller Park roof when it's, you know, obviously RAINING! :guffaw:

It takes approximately ten to twelve minutes to close the roof at Miller Park, which isn't even in the path of the rain in the area, so maybe they were, I don't know, caught off guard?

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

But the rain had already begun - it went on for several minutes before they even thought about closing the roof. Once the rain started - and was clearly visible, as were the fans openly running for cover - the roof did not move.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ And why is that important?

Because the Miller Park staff probably couldn't close the roof until a mid-inning break. Makes sense, as particularly with Miller's view from the batter's box, the roof's motion would create a distraction, and it could also interfere with fielders' ability to spot a ball.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

That's exactly what did happen. They started closing the roof at the end of the half inning. In fact Ron lamented that fact that the Brewers should have played in the same conditions. It was closed by the middle of the at bat in the next inning. I thought it was very quick.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Ryne Sandberg has resigned as the Phillies manager. I thought he'd wait until the end of the season, but I can't say I'm surprised he's leaving. After Chase Utley criticized the coaching staff because Jeff Francoeur was asked to pitch in a blowout, it was only a matter of time before wholesale changes took place.

At least they could still play through the rain. If it had been so severe as to delay the game, that'd look even sillier....a perfectly good roof and they can't even use it?

God, the Cubs dodged such a huge bullet when they didn't hire him.

He quit in '94 and didn't tell his teammates.

He quit today and didn't tell his players

Bullet dodged indeed. Heck, he would've been fired by now anyway.
