2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

Shelby Miller got Mike Redmond fired. That's quite hysterical. No matter how bad the Braves get this year, they'll still be better than the Marlins.

It sounds like Redmond had been a dead man walking for a while; the Marlins reportedly kicked the tires on Wally Backman a month or so ago.

Madison Bumgarner took a 91mph challenge fastball and went yard on it to the tune of 415 feet.

It was from Kershaw.

God damn, pitcher dingers are the best dingers.

Ruben Amaro Jr. needs to work on his people skills.

On a semi-related note, it's nice to see Ryan Howard look like... well, Ryan Howard again. Here's to hoping an AL team is willing to take a chance on him (his contract notwithstanding) and rescue him from the never-ending tire fire that is the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Am I missing something with Jose Bautista not going on the DL? If he can't throw the ball, shouldn't they DL him to get him back in the outfield, especially with them heading to a bunch of NL parks in the beginning of June when he can't DH?

If his shoulder is impinged, then spending a few weeks on the DL probably isn't going to do much at all, and I would very strongly believe that the cortisone shot was timed to get him back on the field by June 1 -- it's only five days away and Bautista was injured far too long ago in order to be placed on the DL retroactively.

Well, Scott Kazmir just left the game after three innings and pointed at his shoulder in the dugout.

Sorry, A's fans.

Yeah, that sucks. He was going to be a key figure in a one of Billy's TradeDeadline™ specials. We don't have much more to offer - maybe Vogt or Sonny Gray.

Oh well - if we can win 70+ games I will be happy. We sold our proverbial soul last year to make it to the Series and ran into the :censored: Royals. This year was going to be rough, but how rough we had no idea.

Yeah, Cespedes just took one of Oterrible's offerings and turned it into a three run homer. Shoot me now.

Reddick is the only one who comes to mind, since I believe he's arb-eligible after this year and after the last two seasons he's going to make a zillion dollars from an arbitrator.

You are right. I hope at least Billy is able to get something good for him.

When there's a challenge, why do the umpires have to drag out all that bulky equipment just to communicate with their home base? Can't they just use smartphones or iPads or something? (Or even just pick up the damn PHONE?) Why do they need all that crap?

How long before there's a holographic strike-zone that everyone can see?

Umps have been so damn inconsistent this year calling strikes.

Weird strike-zones are OK, as long as they stay the same throughout a game.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

yeah, I don't know if umps are particularly bad this year (I'm sure the data is available somewhere) but it sure seems that way.

As I've said before, the next umpire I meet who has a consistent strike zone for the entire game will be the first.

Yeah, consistency is about all you can ask for.

I'm not convinced Baseball thinks a perfectly consistent strikezone is ideal.

After Josh Hamilton's walk-off double, the interview....and Gatorade shower.

I can see it varying regarding the height of the batter - but when it comes to the plate the black is the black, etc...

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

They've consistently since the beginning of time called it more favorably to the batter if the pitcher is doing well and vice versa. They're also pretty bad because they favor better pitchers over worse pitchers, which isn't defensible under any theory of what makes a sport good.
