2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Don't the Colts have to pay Peyton $28 million next year if they don't trade him or cut him?
They can cut him right now for free. The $28 Million is a roster bonus for being on the roster on the first day of the 2012 season (April-ish?).

They have to pay the $28 million in order to trade him. No trades until the 2012 season begins.

Peyton can agree to restructure his contract and take less guaranteed money, but he doesn't have to.

There is no way the Colts cut ties with Peyton, absolutely no way. They're going to follow the exact same model the Packers did with Rodgers: Draft Luck, let him learn for a few years under a master of the position, and then let him do his thing.

If they're smart, that's what they'll do.

Then again this is the franchise who gave us Marshall Faulk for a donut and a bag of nickels.

What's the maximum a rookie can make now? If I'm not mistaken they scaled back rookie wages with the new CBA, so how much can Luck make?

Add that to Peyton's salary for next year, and you'll have your answer on whether or not they keep Peyton.

This is not a good team in need of some serious upgrades that can only come with drafting well (which they don't do) and freeing up some cash.

I'd imagine they get rid of Peyton and start the rebuild.

I am curious as to what the hated Raiders will do in the off season, now that crazy Al Davis is no longer in the owners seat.

The Bears have announced that Mike Tice is their new offensive coordinator; he'll be paired with a passing game coach. Tice has never called plays in his life. This is a fucking terrible idea.

Oh, their top two targets for the GM vacancy (Reggie McKenzie and Eric DeCosta) have no interest in the job -- McKenzie took the GM position in Oakland, and DeCosta is staying put in Baltimore because he's Ozzie Newsome's heir. And Lovie Smith is involved in the search for a new GM.

Because, you know, having a coach involved in the search for his boss is such a fucking wonderful idea.

This team.

I honestly thought they made the playoffs this year until I looked at the matchups the other day. I follow the AFC more closely, but swore the Bears were doing pretty well. What happened?

Cutler broke his thumb in Week 11, needed surgery and missed the rest of the season, while Forte sprained his MCL in Week 13 and missed the remainder of the season. So they were replaced by Caleb Hanie and Marion Barber / Kahlil Bell, paired with Martz's insane playcalling, and they sucked shit for the rest of the season. After starting 7 - 3, they went 1 - 5 for the remainder of the season.

McDaniels wasn't the problem in St. Louis, outside of his occasional refusal to give Jackson the ball. No one could have succeeded with that dumpster fire of an offensive line.

Eeeexcellent. In hindsight he probably never should have left the Patriots in the first place, but I can't blame him at all for taking the head coaching job when the Broncos offered it to him. He's still a solid offensive coordinator; I'm looking forward to seeing what he and Brady can do.

He wasn't the problem, but he was a problem.

His entire offensive strategy:

First down: Incomplete pass.
Second down: Run wide for 2 yard loss.
Third Down: Holding call, then pass for 3 yards.
Fourth down: Punt.

Penalties, botched assignments, wide receivers ran routes like they were in the witness protection program. His play calling in the red zone was for shit. Come out in a shotgun formation on first and goal from the one.

To borrow one of your classics, if I may:

I hate him, and am glad he's gone.

The Texans win their first playoff game!! Man am I a happy camper right now. Andre Johnson looked a tad rusty, but Arian Foster was good to go today. That interception by JJ Watts was unbelievable. I don't believe I've ever seen something like that before.

But next week we go to Baltimore, and that's going to be a very tough game. The Texans can beat Baltimore, but only if bad Joe Flaco shows up, not good Joe Flaco. At least we're still alive for now.

The Saints continue to look damn scary. That offense can keep pace with, and likely outrun, any team out there. I called it earlier in the season that it would be Green Bay going to the SB, but I would be surprised if the NFC Champ isn't determined by who has the ball last- Brees or Rodgers.

The total lack of holding calls against the Saints O line was amazing. Guys nearly stripped out of jerseys and not a flag flew through the air. Not that I care at this point as I hope to see the 49's make the big bowl but now I see how the Saints set all those records this year. Reminded me of the preferential treatment the Dolphins used to get with Marino taking snaps.

Yeah, the way I look at it is this. Both teams have great running backs but very good run defenses. The Ravens's edge is in their quarterback, but good Flacco obviously has to show up.

Early in this game, it seemed to be the same thing. I think it shows how good a coach Sean Paton is. He accounted for this and went for it on several fourth downs early to keep the ball out of Detroit hands.
