2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Well, they lost to Pittsburgh by 3, Tampa Bay by a touchdown, and Kansas City by 4. Until last weeks laugher in the Superdome (and except the opener in Houston) the Colts were hanging tough for the most part. If anything, they seem to be getting worse, not better.

So, Rodgers is on a bye week... I see no choice but to Tebow it this week in my fantasy league

How's that working out?

Well, Tebow only lost to my opponent's QB (Brady) by 5 points in my league's scoring. Half the guy's roster was either injured or on a bye, and I started Detroit's defense against Tebow, so if you count those two defensive touchdown gifts from Tebow you could argue that he soundly beat Brady :guffaw:

Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, and Detroit defense, so yeah, won by like 90 points.

Tebow sucks. That is all.

None too thrilled with how things played out in Pittsburgh last night. Though I did pick the Squealers in my confidence pool, so at least there's that.

It's kind of sad to watch the Patriots' so-called defense compared to what it was a few years ago. Their secondary is just freaking terrible.

It would just be so wrong for the Colts to end up with Luck. They've had the best QB in football for the last decade, they don't need the second coming of Peyton too (if Luck lives up to half the hype).

Eh, it'd be no less fair than the Packers having been able to start Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers since 1992.

Well, the difference is the Packers drafted him 24th. The Bears drafted Cedric Benson #5 that year. The Vikings drafted both Troy Williamson and Erasmus James ahead of Rodgers. Detroit drafted Mike Williams. Nobody in the division would have even had to have traded up in the draft to get Rodgers

And let's face it, most QBs aren't finished NFL products at draft time. Those first two years with the Packers, Rodgers really wasn't ready to start. He had to adjust his throwing motion, he had to fix his footwork. He had to learn a complicated offense. I think the way Green Bay develops quarterbacks is a significant part of Rodgers' success. If the Bears or Vikings drafted him I'm not convinced they wouldn't have ruined him.

And Favre was a second round pick for Atlanta who we traded a first for one year after that draft. Every team had an opportunity to take him.

That's a far cry from Indy, who got Peyton Manning with the #1 overall pick, enjoyed over a decade of sustained success, and then opportunistically tanks the season to secure the #1 pick to get the best QB prospect in many years. That's some shady shit. I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same thing if I were running their football operations. But it's mighty shady.

Uh, you are aware that Peyton threw 81 interceptions in his first four seasons, right? It's not like he came out of the gates with guns blazing.

In any event, way to over-analyze an off-the-cuff comment.

lol, I love how the Lions made fun of Tebow several times during the game with that mock tebowing. What a joke that guy is.

That article nails it. And IMO, the NFL itself portraying Tebow as "good" and Suh as "evil" isn't helping matters any.

After a decade as the NFL’s laughingstock, these Lions are embracing a Bad Boy image similar to that of the ’80s Pistons, with second-year defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh(notes) playing the role of Bill Laimbeer. On Friday, an NFL.com headline portrayed Sunday’s showdown as a struggle between good and evil, with accompanying photos of Tebow and Suh.

“Evil prevails,” Suh told reporters after a defensive effort that included seven sacks.

Despite the fact that the Lions are in my team's division, I love seeing these guys play smashmouth football and making absolutely no apologies about it. It's refreshing in this age of watered-down, protect the QB at all costs NFL. No, I don't want to see anyone get seriously hurt but I also don't want to see ticky-tack penalties and guys being fined for playing the damn game either.

Really only his first season was bad. But that kind of reinforces one of my points. QBs don't come out of the NFL draft instant superstars. They're not running backs, there's way more involved in developing the position.

At any rate the late 90s hadn't quite transitioned into the "you are by rule not allowed to play pass defense" kind of league that we have today. Peyton Manning in his first four years ranked 23rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th respectively in quarterback rating. Pretty good all things considered.
In any event, way to over-analyze an off-the-cuff comment.
"Off-the-cuff" and "makes sense" don't have to be mutually exclusive.

If anyone told me a year ago that the Lions would be contenders, I would have :wtf: then :guffaw: and finally do this .

But Lord knows I never thought in my wildest dreams thats the Lions would be this good. I mean my God, they made Tebow their prison bitch.

I also kind of like that the Lions are now consider as the Bad Boys of the NFL and in a good way.

Lord I wish a certain poster was here so I can tell him this:
Miami is 0-7. Detroit is 6-2. Suck it, Dopeboy.

The Lions have quickly gone from lovable losers to feel-good story of the season to obnoxious jackasses. Still, it is nice to see them finally winning (and winning convincingly) for a change. I'm happy for their fans.

Boy did Rivers fuck that up. I thought KC was the worst team in the league early on, but they've proven me wrong and gotten things together. Got tickets for Packers at Chargers next week. I hope this OT loss is more the thing that causes the wheels to come off for the Chargers rather than something they bounce back from. I'm not a psychologist, but it's a bad enough loss to where I think it's the former.

So - are the real Chiefs the 0-3 start or the 4-0 since then?

Yes, but the Packers aren't in my team's division. :weep: [/whine]

Well - wouldn't that mean he did come out with all guns blazing though?

Leave it to Rivers to tank the game when you need him to. I scored the 2nd highest amount of points in my 10-man FFL this weekend. I still lose because I played the guy who had the highest.

More interceptions than touchdowns this season? Get this guy out of here. He's probably just sad he doesn't have his boyfriend Jay Cutler in the division anymore.

What's up with NFC West? 1-6, 1-6. 2-5, apart from the 49:ers. If they just stopped playing, they could almost win the division anyway in the end.

Somewhere in between. You may recall I said they weren't AS BAD as the first 2 games of the season would indicate. But at the same time, I'm not delusional enough to think they're seriously going to do anything even though they're currently tied for first in the division. The Chargers did a lot to shoot themselves in the foot last night.

In fact, I went to bed when the Chargers tied it and then stuffed the Chiefs on the subsequent drive as I figured the Chargers had finally gotten their shit together. Imagine my surprise this morning upon seeing the final score.

Pretty much the same thing I did.

It's weird. They have some individual stars on D, but they can't seem to play like a cohesive unit.

I'm ready to claw my eyes out whenever the following occurs: 1st down run into the line for 2, 2nd down incomplete pass, 3rd down the QB has time for a cup of coffee and then throws for 14 and another 1st down. This happens 3 times on every long drive it seems.
