2011 MLB Season Discussion

FINALLY! 6-4 in 11.

Hopefully we can get some kind of momentum into this home-stand, especially with all the guys we got on the DL.

If today doesn't prove that Brandon Belt should play every day I don't know what will. That 3 run shut was a thing of beauty and the reaction from his family was priceless. Bochey has to have him in the line up every day from here on out. Why he won't let go of Huff I will never know.

Apparently Tom Ricketts has made it clear to people around the league that the Cubs' GM job is Brian Cashman's if he wants it.

Not a bad idea to go from a place where they expect you to win it all every year, to a place where they never expect to win ever.

Went to the Twins game last night. They're 0-4 in games I attended this year. Now that the Twins are out of the playoffs, the atmosphere at the stadium seemed pretty subdued (not quite as somber as the wake I attended earlier in the day, but damned close).

The tickets (which I won at a golf tournament in May) were great- dugout box seats with real cushions- but I sometimes flet like I was watching a minor league game. Twins starters Ben Revere, Trevor Ploufe, Luke Hughes and Renee Tosoni aren't exactly household names.

At least I got to see Ron Gardenhire get ejected for his 60th time as manager.

I hate to see Kelly Johnson go, but something had to be done. There's no reason why Arizona should only be one game up on the Giants by now. The bats have been too quiet. Time to wake 'em up and get back on a roll.

In that case, y'all did good, trading for two of Toronto's quietest bats... :shifty:

^ Yeah, but I guess you don't understand how frustratingly bad he's been this season. To go beyond the batting average...

Hill: .270 OBP, .584 OPS, 6 HR, 15 2B, 1 3B, 45 RBI
Johnson: .289 OBP, .699 OPS, 18 HR, 23 2B, 5 3B, 49 RBI

Hill's going to bloop out a few more singles, but given the option I'd take Johnson. He seems much more likely to return to form next season, as well, and I half-expected the Jays to make a play for him in the offseason as it is.

The Cubs placed Carlos Pena on waivers and the Yankees put in a claim.

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Peña hardly made an impact and he never seemed to be in the plans for 2012.

If only it was so easy to get rid of Zambrano.

Oh, Marlins.

(Yes, this was at gametime.)

I still can't figure out how in the hell they managed to get a new stadium.

I can't figure out how they managed to con $360 million out of the city and county for it, considering Miami-Dade County is carrying about $28 billion in debt.

I think it's pretty clear that the attendance problems in Miami go a little beyond location.

^^ Wow, I've been to High School games higher attendance than that! Sad to think that they've won the World Series twice.
MLB is in need of a little contraction. Threaten that every team below X number of butts in seats on average over the next two years may go away. That may bring out the fans and encourage the teams to field a quality product.
