2010-11 network pilot pickups - in one handy place!

She was Trish Merrick on "Jericho," Cass on "John From Cincinnati," Lena Branigan on "Brothers & Sisters" and the voice of Elena Fisher in the Uncharted video games. I've never seen any of those TV shows.

Emily Rose was the young blond recurring doctor during the final season of ER. I never watched Jericho.

I believe Emily was in the 2nd eason of Jericho playing the female worker from J&R who tips off Mimi I think about there corupt side of the corporation.

I found a Zap2It thread where people are rating the pilot scripts. They're raving about how well written Rex is.

The concept behind Rex makes it seem like a great fit for a CBS 10pm show :( pity its in NBC.

Emily Rose appears about a minute into this video:

If you do a Google Images search for her, the images might not be so flattering thanks to a certain movie. :D

Ah okay, thanks, I vaguely remember her now. For a minute, I was scared they cast the actress who played Emily in Jericho - similar looks but she stunk and definitely should not be given a lead role in anything above the level of, say, Jersey Shore.

Fox is developing Terra Nova, a sci-fi series about a family from 100 years in the future who time travel back 150 million years into the past. Steven Spielberg is in negotiations to come on board as an exec producer. If the show gets the green light Fox may order it straight to series since shutting down production after shooting a pilot would be too costly. You can read the full report from Variety here.

That's more interesting than the normal round-up, there's a number of things here that could prove worthwhile viewing.

Ahh yes Cutthroat, aka Weeds 3.0.

But yeah, I don't think people realize how important a lead actor is to a show. If MLP wasn't the lead of Weeds it would have bombed.

I couldn't help but think of Weeds from the description.

Sounds like it would be fun just for the visuals (but can they afford to make it look passable on a TV budget?)

Another CIA drama! When Hollywood jumps on a bandwagon, they sure go overboard. :rommie: To mix my metaphors somewhat. This one's on the CW.
Nomads - an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride following a group of nearly broke young backpackers traveling the world who agree to earn money by working secret missions for the CIA.
I wonder how long it will take for someone to blame a real-world case of backpackers being arrested for being "CIA agents" on this show and sue the CW?

Well, if anyone knows how to make dinosaurs look good, it's Spielberg. SFX technology has come such a long way... Walking With Dinosaurs was produced over ten years ago, if they can pull off a little better than that (which was itself quite good) I'd be happy. I doubt he will disappoint.

The Station
A covert CIA operative and his workmates are embedded in a South American country and must navigate their mission to install a new dictator in this banana republic with its own unique set of challenges.

Given the current state of US affairs over the last... well, century; this show won't do well overseas.

How about a show that forces England to come in and try and replace the (fictional) White House Administration? That would be a cool show to see.

That doesn't really matter much in TV, I guess, because CIA- or spy-based shows are the Hot New Thing this year. Let me count em up just for fun. (I don't think 24 quite counts as being part of this category.)

Existing
Chuck*
Archer
*
Burn Notice

Upcoming Series
The Station*
Nomads
Chaos*
Covert Affairs*
Nikita
Undercovers

*Either worth watching (existing) or they sound like they might be (upcoming).

24 still kills overseas and the writers have kinda been shooting back against critics of torture used by the US by showing how it works on 24 and then having the head of the committee who was bringing charges against Jack end up killed by terrorists ;)

According to The Hollywood Reporter Maggie Q is in talks to play the lead in Nikita, the CW's remake of La Femme Nikita, while Rosalyn Sanchez has been cast as the lead in ABC's Cutthroat.

Yeah, I chuckled at how they portrayed that weenie librul senator for DARING to question Jack's propensity for torture! Doesn't the silly fool realize that Jack is a superior human being who can be counted on to make the tough choices that safeguard Senator Weenie, undeserving as he might be?

I think it's pretty clear that what succeeds in foreign markets is just the same as what succeeds domestically - fast, exciting action! People care a lot less about politics than they do about being entertained by something brainless and fun.

Shit My Dad Says just became a must-see. Here's why. :D

If there's a list of the top foreign markets for American television, the UK has to be in the top three - and 24's tanking here.

The nature of the show doesn't help its ratings. Most people would rather just get the DVDs for £15 and then just have a boxed set weekend.

Someday, somebody's gotta find us a list of foreign TV ratings - weird that the Nielsens are available all over the place but not for any other country.

Well that means it's tanking because it's serialized, not because of the content. And that applies to American ratings too, which is why serialized shows are still definitely the minority while police procedurals and sitcoms still dominate.

^The ratings for 24 this season are considerably worse than in previous seasons since the show moved to Sky One. Back in the early days on BBC2 it was getting the sort of huge numbers that shows just aren't supposed to get at 10pm on a Sunday.

They're also dropping off week by week, which is worse.
