2008's best Scifi movie..

And no, I don't mean the dreadful scifi-network movies..

In your opinion what was the best SCIFI/FANTASTY movie of the year. No, I wont bother listing them because it would take forever and I'd leave off some and anger many...

Yes, The Dark Knight and Hulk count....use your best judgment as to whether the movie you pick would be considered scifi. I think we all understand the limits.

State your movie..then state your case...

The Dark Knight probably because it and Twilight were the only scifi/fantasy movies I saw in 2008.

Since the Dark Knight counts and it's my favorite movie of 2008 I guess I have to go with The Dark Knight.

If The Dark Knight counts, then no other film even stands a chance. But I do also want to throw in a shout out for Wall-E. It and TDK are pretty much tied for my favorite film of the year.

1. The Dark Knight
2. Wall-E (if you can count it)
3. Let the Right One In
4. ...... Iron Man?

My first instinct is to go with Let The Right One In, but I'll be honest in admiting I found it was confused in its tone between horror and humor. What else even came out this year? Not a good sign that I can't remember.

The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk are all worthy contenders (and get progressively more scifi from left to right in that order), but I think the best purely scifi film of 2008 was WALL-E by far.

I'm hard-pressed to come up with a stand-out favorite. The Incredible Hulk is probably my favorite, but I didn't love it. Iron Man was okay. Sunshine was better than I had expected, but it wasn't spectacular. With all the publicity surrounding Heath Ledger's death, I felt as if I should have enjoyed The Dark Knight more than I actually did.

This doesn't count, but because I watched it for the first time in 2008, my favorite film that I first watched in 2008 was Ed Wood's Bride of the Monster from 1955.

I really can't bring myself to consider The Dark Knight scifi, so I'll go with WALL-E.

The Dark Knight easily takes the prize, but WALL-E, Iron Man, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and The Incredible Hulk are all close seconds.

1Wall-E, a cut above the rest

Here's the rest
2Ironman, 3Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, 4Sleep Dealer, 5HellboyII, 6Dark Knight, 7Outlander, 8City Of Ember, 9Cloverfield, 10Dante 01
DarkKnight didn't really live up to the hype for me, IronMan was very good but not as great as Wall-E, although its a serious stretch considering some of these scifi. I see FalTorPan mentioned Sunshine, wasn't that a 07 movie?

Wall*E's execution is better but the redemption of humanity was incredibly easy. Literally incredible.

The Day the Earth Stood Still went a lot futher in facing the questions asked than the original, but it still muted itself at the end. Plus the execution wasn't as smooth---they should have foregone repeating the Einstein sequence from the original, for instance. The "biological altruism" stuff was far more pertinent. Still, unpopular as the opinion may be, I think this is the movie that will stand up, while things like Dark Knight are forgotten.

If the satire in one is arbitrarily resolved but the other is not as well done, it's hard to decide which is "best." Plus, Iron Man was thematically light but for what it was, was pretty well pitch perfect. So is it best?

I suppose I go with Wall*E. (Barring some 2008 SF movie I haven't even seen or fell from my memory.)
