2008 WWE Draft - Big Surprises

Are you saying Forrest Gump wasn't real either??? My universe is crumbling down around me!!!!

Seriously though, I have watched wrestling since I was a kid. I know it's fake, I have since I was 11 or 12. But these guys are still gifted athletes and good entertainers. Some love it some hate it, but to each his own. My Dad never understood why I liked watching Ricky Steamboat and Tito Santana mix it up in the ring. He did however respect my choice and let me watch it.

Oh, back in those days it was all about Ric Flair [NWA] and the Macho Man [WWF]

To be the man, you got to beat the man... WWWOOOOOOOOO

^^^^^

Those guys were cool to. But what about Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas? Hands down best tag team ever!:techman:

My favorite tag team growing up was Demolition! Yeah, I know they were a Road Warriors rip off, but I still loved Ax and Smash... Crush not so much!

Wow - we are getting seriously old school now!

As a young kid I actually used to be afraid of George The Animal Steel. He was just too freaky.

I think it was that fully laid carpet back, too.

:(

My friends dad used to do a great George "the animal" impression. Used to crack us up when we watched wrestling at his house. And he was one hairy mofo!!!

Also where are the great tag teams now a days? There have not been any for a couple of years now. London and Kendrick where OK but nothing like the Hardys or the Dudleys.

I remember seeing a Mad Magazine once that made fun of wrestling. GTAS goes out to wrestle this jobber, beats him and is then led back to the change room. They sit him down and in the next panel you see them take his mask off and it's a gorilla.

I remember almost wetting myself over that one.

Although, when I think about it now, it's kinda really obvious.

;)

If THIS threw you, I think the Katie Vick/Kane storyline would have traumatized you back to your childhood and seen you rocking back and forward in a corner, sucking your thumb.
That was the beginning of the downhill for WWE, though. Who the hell came up with that storyline anyways? Was the WWE too desperate after the themselves destroyed the Attitude Era with crappy storyline and the Mcmahon-Helmsley era schtick?

WWE has dramatically de-emphasised tag team wrestling. It is very rare to see both sets of tag titles defended on a PPV as they were at Night of Champions.

WWE's most over tag teams are John Morrison and The Miz and Jesse and Festus, but we're a long way from the classic early 2000's era of the Dudleys, the Hardys, Edge and Christian, the New Age Outlaws, the Acolytes etc.

Unfortunately, Raw's World Tag Team Champions (as opposed to Smackdown/ECW's WWE Tag Team Champions) got zero reaction last Monday despite Cody Rhodes' heel turn.

One small ray of light is Cryme Time. Pairing them up with John Cena helps them a lot, plus it's known that they were brought back because it was felt that Raw lacked enough African American faces (I use the term "faces" in the wrestling sense - i.e. good guys).

I still think the tag titles should be unified and defended on all shows. To make it fair to the champions, so they don't have to attend on Mondays and Tuesdays, challengers would come to them - i.e. a Raw team would wrestle on ECW to challenge Miz and Morrison.

I don't really think unifying them would help
The key problem is that they form tag teams... and as soon as they see the potential of one of them, they disband the tag team. The teams usually don't have gimmicks anymore, they are just wrestler 1 and wrestler 2

It all comes down to the WWE putting effort into their tag team division... which frankly would be a better use of their middle card wrestlers

^I do agree with that. They took two mid-card guys (Miz and Morrison), put the tag titles on them to further the Matt Hardy/MVP angle and only then discovered that actually they work well together and their gimmicks are complementary.

In all honesty, I would much rather see an extra tag team match every other week, than a diva match

^Not going to happen. WWE has seen the ratings the Knockout segments are getting on TNA and want a piece of that. TNA put Angelina Love on and their ratings go up almost instantly.

Maybe so, but the WWE diva matches are BBOORRIINNGG!!

Mickie James is not boring! :p

Seriously, though, the ratings bump TNA gets when they put the Knockouts, especially Angelina Love, Velvet Sky and Gail Kim, on is ridiculous.

Mickey James is the exception for the divas. She has a lot of talent in the ring. Also her "relationship" angle with Cena will give her a huge bump.

I think if they pushed the tag teams and started up some good rivalries the would go over well. But you are right, every time one becomes more popular they split up the team. They should keep promoting Cryme Tyme with Cena. What ever heel he is getting heat from should then get his own tag team for back up. Then do a 6 man tag match and start some real heat between the two tag teams. I would love to see them put some effort into the tag division again.

They should bring her to the WWE. She's one hot piece of ass!

They already did.

They broke up.

This is a good idea and it seems to be the way WWE is going. They put Hawkins and Ryder with Edge and now Cryme Time with John Cena.
