2008 DVD Watching Challenge

I just finished watching S3 of Veronica Mars.

EDIT: And I just watched Superbad on Blu-ray.

I just watched the extended cut of Underworld on Blu-ray. I've gotta say I definitely prefer the theatrical cut. The faster pacing really helps the film flow much better. And most of the added scenes didn't really add much to the movie.

Since i last posted ive been watching a fair amount. Ive been watching James Bond in order and im up to The Living Daylights,
Before that i watched:

Hustle Season 1
Firefly Complete Series
Serenity

I enjoyed watching Hustle as i missed it the first time around and found it pretty interesting, Firefly and Serenity well, It was great to see it again it had been too long.

I finished up BSG season 2.5 earlier today. Now I just need to get my copies of BSG S3 and Razor in the mail soon. I really wanna watch them before BSG S4 starts. ;)

^ Hey, how does Gattaca (on Blu-ray) compare to the DVD (if you've seen it)? Cause I've noticed some of the older movies don't really look THAT MUCH better in HD.

EDIT: I just wanted to that, that I'm not saying all older movies don't benefit from HD treatment (Blade Runner and 2001 come to mind), I just think more then just a simple HD transfer is required.

The picture quality will not blow people's mind away but as with nearly all Blu-Rays the close up shots are very sharp/detailed, and there is much less noise. I thought Sony did an excellent job on this transfer. About as well as they could've done considering the source. It's definitely an upgrade over the DVD version but if you are looking for I, Robot quality then you are out of luck.

I should mention that it's hardly fair to compare even the likes of POTC against I, Robot as I, Robot has the best picture quality of any Blu-Ray released so far. It's like watching a mint condition copy of the original film in which the movie was shot on.

^ Damn, now I'm actually considering getting I, Robot on BD (even though I already own it on DVD). And I definitely don't expect Gattaca to look as good as most of the new movies. But based on what you've said, I might also have to re-buy it on BD. :)

^ I've been meaning to re-watch that for a while now. I watched Underworld (on Blu-ray) about two weeks ago. I just haven't gotten around to watching Evolution.

Well, I did end up watching Underworld: Evolution on Blu-ray today. Man Kate looks yummy in 1080p. :D
