GOATS.

Lottery winners are keeping their Wallyworld jobs, and spending most their $2 million lotto winnings on goats.

:wtf:

I don't know about you, but if I won $2 million, it'll get spent in this order:

ME > FAMILY > CERTAIN RELATIVES > SAVINGS > NEEDLESS JUNK...

And if there's anything left, even then it's not for goats.

I voted NO and I also voted CATS.

If I won 2 million I would try and buy the house I am now living in. If the Housing Department wouldn't sell it to me I would buy a house nearby. I would do up the kitchen and the bathroom of my house.

That is between 300,000-400,000 spent.

I would invest around a million - that would keep me comfortably for the rest of my life.

That would leave me with about $600,000. I would pay off my sister's mortgage (she only owes about 40,000) and I would send about that same amount to my other sister.

I would probably buy a second house nearby and let my son and his friends live in it. His friends would have to pay me rent but I would let my son say rent free.

That would leave me about 120,000 to 'waste' - cameras, computers, books eytc. I would buy my best friend a new washing machine and some other things and take her on a trip to New Zealand with me. If the flight to New Zealand wasn't too painful I might consider longer flights and go to Iceland (for myself) and to France (for my best friend).

I would also give some of the money to my favourite charities.

EDIT TO ADD - CATS!!!! - I would build them a big cat enclosure that would take up half the back yard. They would have climbing frames etc in it. I would get another kitten who I would name Winchester. That would mean I would have four cats instead of three.

SECOND EDIT - Second post to say - I read the article and I can understand why the woman is spending her money on goats. Goats are her passion. She is getting the 2 million over 25 years - that is only 80,000 a year. It isn't that big an amount. It would be no different than someone who rescues wildlife, or cats or dogs spending money on rescuing them.

Cats. Lots and lots and lots and lots of cats.

I'm not exactly against goats, I mean everyone's gotta have something they love and someone's gotta love goats... I suppose... but I'm a cat person.

I'd also probably buy a house to have somewhere to keep the cats.

How many cats would you have? Lots and lots could mean 20 or it could mean 100.

I am too lazy to have more than 4.

Considering last week I was complaining about having to feed and clean up after two cats while my parents were vacationing, "lots" might have to mean one. I could always hire a staff to do the yucky stuff, though. I'm horribly lazy.

I voted yes because it's my mother's dream to own a small goat farm and make her own cheese and yogurt. So, while I wouldn't spend all my money on goats, I'd spend a bit to get her started. :)

Well, first of all, anybody who won 2 million in the lottery would only see about half of it. The government would take the other half.

I would spend the remaining $500,000. on myself.

And my girlfriend. She would get the other half (naturally).

The wife and I have given serious consideration to leaving the rat race and raising goats out in the far, far, far west Chicago suburbs.

Not in Australia. Lotto wins are tax free here.

Also we get full Lotto payments straight off instead of having them spread over years.

.

Whoa. That's awesome.

The husband and i just had a conversation about how much money is taken out in taxes if you win the lottery here. It's mind blowing.

I certainly wouldn't spend my money on goats (although i do understand this woman's reasoning). If i won that kind of money I'd be off of LI in a flash.

You're lucky. Just one more reason why the people need to exert tighter control over the government in the US.

And we also have the lump sum payment option on lottery wins here.

Heck no!

I'd keep my job, but I'd pay off all my bills and invest some of it. Then, I'd go jet setting on the weekends after buying all the useless stuff my little greedy heart desires.

But... goats?

voted no.

$200,000 to charities, debts gone (including taxes on the $2m), daughter's college funded, retirement funded, the rest invested to live on or at least supplement income from dividends.

Sounds like these people are doing a very selfless act by rescuing and caring for mistreated animals... you'll get no complaints from me. If I won the lottery, I suspect that I would donate some of my money to worthy animal welfare organizations.

I think she should spend it on rescuing goats, if that's what she wants to do with it. She was going to be rescuing goats anyway, even if she hadn't won the lottery; this just makes it a bit easier.

I don't see anything wrong with her spending her money on a goat rescue. Anyone who saves animals from being mistreated is all right in my book. And I have to say, it's a lot better than the reckless stuff some people spend their money on when they win the lottery.

For me, it would be cats, though. Setting up a little cat rescue would be very nice indeed.

(Actually I think I would do very different things with the money. But I do admire her for caring enough to rescue animals.)
