2 hour movie

Abrams - "It will be a two-hour movie. I’m sick of these two hours and forty-five minute movies"

Does this translate into there is enough usable footage for a 2hr45min movie? If so, hopefully some of it will be included in the DVD.

I also hope that the editors don't count the opening/closing credits into the total run time of 120mins - that could take up to 10mins of valuable screen time.

^^...in the Auckland Shipyards -- which, as we all know, is not in Auckland, but in geostationary orbit above Auckland.

but back on topic:

I don't mean to sound flippant here, but I want the film to end just after the story has been properly told. If that's 2 hours, then great.

Nope. That is to say it doesn't translate to that. But there probably isn't a 2:45 minute movie in the script anyway or it might not have fit Abrams' tastes for two hour movies.

The credits always count.

Well Abram's MI III was 126 minutes and I thought it seemed pretty packed with a lot of action and some decent character development.

With the amount of 'eras' and ground to cover I thought it would be closer to 2 1/2 than 2, but I am still hoping for 2 hr & 5 or 10 min which might fit into his "it's two hours" statement.

this doesn't mean it won't have some deleted scenes though--he may have shot 2 1/2 hours and simply took the 2 hours he felt told the story in the most efficient way possible.

The movie should be exactly as long as it needs to be to properly tell the story it presents. I don't get the obsession over running time, especially as a tightly paced and edited film is almost always more pleasant than one with a lot of filler and meandering.

Well, I was hoping for it to be at least 2.5 hours, but I'm satisfied with 2. The more Trek the merrier, of course, but as long as the 2 hours is a really good 2 hours, you won't hear me griping.

I agree. It's as Lincoln said when asked "How long are your legs?" "Long enough to reach the ground," he replied.

Although, I do understand people who want a longer movie. Kids will always want to stay up a little longer; so too will good movies leave one wanting more. Hopefully we'll have one of those.

This, (JJs comments) comes as a surprise considering the story being touted as "epic", I too was expecting at least 2.5 hours based on that but ok.

If more scenes than needed were shot to tell the story then that will make for better special features on the DVD.
