2 HBO sci-fi TV series 'Humanitas' & 'The World Inside'

I like that they're trying Sci-Fi, but both concepts sound boring. Still, we'll see what happens...

From what I have seen so far on what has been posted, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be much plot beyond "who's agenda are we battling against" and "let's find a way home", both of which have been done numerous times before to lesser/greater degrees...and some of them have been rather bad.

I can't correct you, because I don't know yet. And neither do you. Knowledge comes from evidence, not guesses in advance of the facts.

And I see no reason to assume Stargate Universe "will be awful."
It's being written and produced by the same people who did the other Stargate series. That should be evidence enough. If they haven't shown creativity and talent before now, where's it going to come from allsudden? :rommie:

Yeah I started a thread on these a couple days ago...
I searched in Science Fiction & Fantasy and over the entire TrekBBS for both post titles before starting this thread. Or possibly you are referring to another website.

'in development' @ HBO could mean 2 years... Well maybe when TrekXII is coming out we'll have a few sci-fi shows on TV again.

The search function here must suck then (I dunno, I never use it :rommie:) because here's the thread.

And given how big a success the SG franchise has been for SciFi/Syfy, I think that Wright and Cooper should have the clout by now to do what they want.
Exactly. Why should to suits interfere when those two are delivering exactly the kind of mindless drivel the masses apparently want? I don't begrudge them success - if people want schlock, then people deserve schlock. But I won't pretend that I think it's anything other than schlock. I'm 99% certain that their "angsty" angle will turn out to be a pathetic parody of BSG at best. They don't have what it takes to actually deliver a passable imitation but have apparently gotten it into their heads that that sort of stuff is "cool" now.

Well, I'm going to be a revolutionary and wait until I actually see the damn show before deciding whether to like it or hate it. I know that actual facts get in the way of a good Internet rant, but I happen to think they matter more than opinions.

Same decision as you are, but SGU practically looks to be somewhat boring. However I do plan to give it the first 13 episodes and see how it goes. :)

If they bother to get ideas from real science, Humanitas could be fascinating.

Oddly enough, The World Inside was a Silverberg I didn't read. And it is old enough to have been purged from the libraries. What's the story?

As to the sidenote about Universe, it will almost certainly be bad. For one, the Stargate universe is too silly to take so seriously. SG1 was a very well made comedy/adventure and the producers shouldn't have abandoned their forte. Also, imitating BSG is not just a matter of abandoning writing standards for sensationalism. You can't just write normal people, for instance, they have to flawed in ways that are actually cool when seen with a certain mindset.
