1st image of David Bradley as William Hartnell

So I see. No need to gloat though, I only asked where the rumour had come from and opined that he doesn't look anything like him, and I stand by that! ;) Still, with the right wig and a well-pitched performance... He does have a history of crafting a diverse array of eccentric characters so in that sense it's probably a good fit. We'll see. :)

I'm not even sure he'd need a wig ... a different hairstyle might be enough. Along with a bit of makeup.

I don't get where that fellow thinks Bradley is a dead wringer for Hartnell. In those park shots he doesn't look a thing like him. Where I come from, that's called, "might be mistaken for the fellow on dark, foggy night by a witness with no corrective lenses and severe myopia."

And Ron Grainer... and Chris Barry! (Actually, I could get a little angry if they simplify things to claim that Richard Martin directed the whole of The Daleks, not just the dull episodes at the end).

I dunno, I can see it. The proper hair and clothes will likely help a lot.

If anything, the casting works better dramatically if there's a noticeable difference between 'William Hartnell' and 'William Hartnell in wig and costume as the Doctor'.

For me, the voice is the most important thing. Richard Hurndall in "The Five Doctors" was a pretty good physical match for Hartnell, but I didn't find his voice or his speech cadence similar enough. What worries me is that I don't remember Bradley sounding anything like Hartnell.

Well that's it really, it's down to the performance, if he can sell it it wouldn't matter if he had green hair.

diankra raises a good point though, at the end of the day Bradley isn't playing the 1st Doctor, he's playing Hartnell playing the 1st Doctor!

And to further quibble, he should be playing Hartnell playing The Doctor not the 1st Doctor, the character as he played is unique in that regard.

Little side note for British viewers: Brian Cox was on the Daily Politics this afternoon (Tuesday 1226th Feb, rpt at midnight on BBC Parliament), so you can take a look at how good a match he is for Sydney Newman with his 60s haircut and moustache.

Aside from being 20 years too old...
