1984 - Book Cover Query

I have no idea. But I just wanted to say that 1984 has to win the award for the largest amount of different covers ever. Every time I see that book, online or in a store, it has a different cover.

I like this cover. I would guess it depicts Winston Smith.
Eric Blair is such a great writer you must try some of his other books if you have not already done so. Truly one of England's finest authors.

It may not be an actual character from the book, but more an image supposedly to represent the state of things in the novel.

Indeed. I'm on my second read of 'Homage to Catalonia' right now.

Looks a bit too well fed to be Winston. One doesn't normally have the opponent on the cover but to me it suggests more of O'Brien.

Looks more like an Ayn Rand kind of cover.

Ditto on that comment about a new cover for 1984 every week....The one I didn't like at all was the one with what looked like Freddie Mercury.

I have that cover too Borg451
After seeing the movie I do always picture John Hurt as Wisnton whenever I read it now. The guy on the cover isn't really what I imagine him to look like

I would like to read that. Have you read Down and Out In Paris And London very good book. I love Coming Up For Air also.

AFAIK, nobody in the book dresses like that (the Inner Party members wear black coveralls, Outer Party members wear blue coveralls, and Proles...would not dress up like that anyway), so it is probably a metaphor.

Either that, or it's Orwell himself.

Who do you think the person on this book cover is supposed to be?

Maybe his hair's cut closer?

(Side note, Borg451, if your book cover pic is hotlinked, feel free to take the one I just posted above, it's on my account)
