1970s Children's TOS Tunics

Old store-bought TOS shirts were so much cooler looking than TNG costumes. Simpler to sew/make, and usually more colorful with bigger insignias whether sewn or ironed on.

Here's me in mine, circa 1976:

Yeah, but the blue science tunic while sporting Chekov's famous hair?? What's the deal dude? :p

I'm just joshin' ya too. Hey, my school pics from 70's make me look like a blond Bobby Brady. I have nothing Trek related though... (darn it!)

You should see a photo of me from 1976 or '77 when I was in my terrible twos. I had a TODDLER LEISURE JACKET on.:scream:

I'm feeling much better now.

Even at that age, the command insignia on the blue shirt caught my attention.

After all, I not only had the Starfleet Tech Manual, but one of those jackets from that AMT offer.

Now if only I could locate that school picture...

When I was that age, I had several TREK books like the TECHNICAL MANUAL...and was starting to collect the Fotonovel adaptations of a dozen of the original episodes. They used to sell them for 99 cents a pop at Rose's department stores near the lunch counters.

I remember having a kid's shirt in about 76 or 77 that had maybe the standard 4 views of the Enterprise printed on it. The design came in blue and a chocolate brown color. I had the blue and remember giving as much holy hell as an 8 YO can give to another kid that had the brown one.

There is some deep sociological truth here. We get crapped on for being Trekkie kids, but crap on another Trekkie kid for the wrong color. Hilarious! Lord of the Flies. Yay humans!

There is a great scene in "Free Enterprise" where one of the protagonists gets into a school fight while wearing his gold TOS tunic. The tunic is even a topic of discussion during the fight. Hilarious!

If only the new movie could revive the old kids' clothing craze of my childhood. But kids today have so many other movies and TV shows to keep them enraptured and dressed like spacemen and superheroes that I doubt we'll see many TREK shirts on children anymore.

Around 1975 I got a child's gold command shirt, short sleeved with a great ribbed collar.
Holy childhood flashback!

Yes, I had them too. A gold one and a red one. Wore 'em until I couldn't anymore. I remember seeing them in a local JcPenny store with my grandma and I just had to have 'em. I wanted the ones with long sleeves, but because it was summer at the time, my grandma wouldn't hear of it and got me the short sleeve versions instead.

I wore those shirts proudly with my toy phaser, communicator, and tricorder! I remember running up and down many dirt hills as if they were alien planets and doing drop kicks to my friends...

It must be all guys, or almost all guys, replying to this thread.
Because I think you look adorable, Todd! I just want to give
the younger you a big ol' hug and muss up your hair.
