12 Monkeys

I started to watch this because how of how much I liked Picard season 3. However, season 1 of 12 Monkeys is a struggle.

Did anyone watch it? Does it get better?

If you don't like 12 Monkeys season one, you probably will not like the rest of 12 monkeys.

Disclaimer: I am accused of being a Terry Matalas shill, so I could have a bias here...

There are a few episodes in the middle of season 1 I struggled with. It does eventually expand beyond the post-Apocalyptic present marauders and time travel to just 2015.

It help to know which episodes you stalled on...

I enjoyed the show quite a bit, and was thrilled to see Deacon on Picard as Captain Shaw (his character is equally douche-y/lovable in 12 Monkeys :) )

Edit: If you like time travel, and future versions of yourself avoiding past versions of yourself to avoid paradoxes, and consequences of past/future events, you'll like the show.

Plus, you'll see some other Picard alumni, including Battlestar Galactica's James Callis

So does it break away from the movie to do it's own thing a lot?

So not the movie.

Superficial similarities to begin with, but they had to stretch the story out for 4 years. Hell, even stretching it out for 1 season (12 episodes) from a move, requires a lot of elasticity.

I feel like watching it gain.

Race to End!

I personally feel that 12 Monkeys was the best sci-fi show since the remake of BSG, and certainly the best time-travel themed show I've seen (there was only one instance that I had a problem with, from a technical point of view, regarding the back and forth travel between the future and various points in the past).

IMO, it's well worth your time to keep going, unless you really feel it's not working for you.

I saw the title and thought you meant the movie. The movie is good, at least.

Even if it is just La Jetee but in standard movie format.

I loved the original movie. The signature grit style of a Terry Gilliam production works so well for it. Willis, Pitt, and Plummer really make it work. When I heard about the series, I suffered immediate bias... couldn't fathom how they could "reboot" the movie into a series. But given the comments here, I think I'll give it a shot. :techman:
