Wouldn't you know it, my power went out Friday afternoon. I had the DVR set to tape the whole thing, but then I missed the first three episodes. So I had to wait until the first few episodes hit On Demand yesterday, and I binged the season over yesterday and today.
It was better than the somewhat scattered and absurd season 2; it still had the same background of nonsensical ideas like the "Red Forest" and destroying time, but it kept them in the background and dwelled on them less, instead focusing on the characters' stories and the intricate, loopy chain of causality, so it held together better. I do get a little tired of TV shows where the big world- or cosmos-shaking events all turn out to be very insularly centered around the main characters and their immediate family, but they can be dramatically effective.
I liked the funny bits best, though. There was some terrific comedy, particularly where Jennifer (of course) and Deacon were involved -- I loved the auction-house episode. There's also a marvelous exchange of awful puns between Cole and Ramse in one episode -- just the kind of pun-upmanship that runs in my own family.
