12.5 Million on Friday 5/15

Jesus Cross Christ!!!!

And look at that Avatar with Spock grabbing Uhura's ta-tas!

I smell a 45 million dollar gate. Two of them were my daughter and her BF, who were not Trek fans and went Thursday. Loved the film. Casual moviegoers.

So maybe $18 million today and another $12 million on Sunday. About $42+ million for the weekend would be damn good.

Probably around 15 million today and another 10-12 tomorrow is my guess. Hey anything around 34-36 is a nice second weekend for a mostly niche show. I will be there today with 5 others at 2pm to see it again.

Just as I thought. Nowhere near the 40-50 Million most people thought. Star Trek will sadly not even see 180 Million let alone 200.

Wolverine was down 76% Friday to Friday.
Ironman was down 56% Friday to Friday.

If this number holds, Star Trek will be down 54% for the same period.

You really need to stop it with the Chicken Little stuff every time a box office report comes out. Star Trek is performing better than Ironman and Ironman got $318,412,101 domestically and $582,030,528 worldwide.

But as Squiggy pointed out, isn't this a solid number? If similar movies experience an even bigger drop but still are hits, what makes Star Trek any different?

Grosses tend to go up on Saturdays.
And at least this is doing better than Wolverine!

To the Chicken Littles,
Trek XI is still going to make almost as much in its second weekend as Nemesis made in its entire run. That's nothing to sneeze at.

According to the OP's link Trek is projected to end the weekend with $143 M for its run so far with Wolverine at $150 M. At this rate Trek will catch and pass Wolverine sometime this week, or next weekend at the latest.

Its going to finish up $240/$250-ish I reckon. It depends on how badly it is hurt by the Memorial Weekend releases and the loss of IMAX.

I understand 12.5 is decent number and a decent 2nd week drop. However, I am saying it is disappointing compared to what most people here on this site were saying. Most people were projectiong 45-50 Million, which obviously will not happen.

Also, It can be compared to Iron Man and Wolverine all day, but if Trek is below 145 Mil after this weekend, It's going to be nearly impossible to make it to 200 Mil.

Yeah, I was referring to this http://boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?id=summer09vs.htm

As great as Imax is, it's not going to make or break this film.

You'd be surprised how much its making from the more expensive ticket prices of IMAX.

Impossible?

Da Vinci Code, similar opening weekend, worse second weekend numbers. Total $217 Million

Austin Powers Goldmember, similar opening weekend, worse second weekend, Total $213 Million

The Lost World, Jurassic Park, Similar opening weekend, worse second weekend, Total $229 Million

Star Wars Episode II, Better Opening Weekend, similar second weekend, Total $302 Million

Not impossible. Not even improbable. These movies seem like the norm in this position.
