10 most-anticipated movies of 2008

This is a list of movie trailers being advertised. Nothing more. Star Trek and Indiana Jones don't have trailers yet, or they almost certainly would have made the list (certainly Indy, at least).

This list is garbage. Just file this in the circular file in your brain and forget about it.

So this is a list of the 10 most anticipated trailers of 2008!
Phew, honor is safe!

Most anticipated trailer? There's only one coming that is actually expected to draw some people to the theater just to see the trailer. And that opens January 18.

I'm thinking Cloverfield will be a giant turd. Nothing about the preview intrigued me. I guess it's because I can't stand watching (home) movies where people don't know how to hold a camera still. Sorta like on the car forum I frequent where people post up pics of a car and the camera was held at a really crazy angle.
See, "shaky-cam" footage has never bothered me in the least. In fact, I find that it CAN provide a sense of presence and realism that traditional shots often lack, leaving the viewer feeling detached from the action, as observers rather than participants.

That, and giant monsters going on killing sprees in highly populated areas are the epitome of awesome. :D

Anyway, someone on this board will be at the first showing of Cloverfield, walk out as soon as the Trek trailer ends, go home, start a thread about the trailer, and perhps never admit to not having stayed to watch Cloverfield.

I'd have to agree with Star Wars Episode 1 being the most anticipated movie of the past 20 years.

There is a name for the effect where current events seem to have more weight than past ones. Of course I can't remember that name. I'd say both posters' judgement of anticipation for both Transformers and Indy IV are in that category.

I'd bet the Average Joe doesn't even know yet there will be an Indy IV. An Indy 500, that he knows about. But not Indy IV.

I didn't know that.

But you see, Arlo, that what makes me the perfect judge of this. I'm not a movie goer. I haven't been to a theater in years. I don't buy/rent the latest movies except occasionally. It's just the way I am. I also buy new music constantly. To each his own.

If it wasn't for this board, I'd have no idea there is going to be an Indy IV. I take that back. I do read the LA Times online and I've seen articles in there, being Hollywood's hometown paper. But Indy IV hasn't hit me the way Star Wars 1 did. Everyone was waiting for that to come out for over a decade. You always knew it was there. The movie just needed to be made.

It was just different.

I wasn't arguing one way or the other about Star Wars. Anyway, my initial comment about Indy IV was mostly in jest/sarcasm, but I guess that was lost.

This is from Yahoo, and there seems to be a glaring omission that pisses me off.

Yeah, who needs Star Trek,10,000 B.C or Harry Potter when you got those gems?

The only one on that list that is anticipated by a broad audience is the Dark Knight. Serioulsy, who really wants to see another Rambo movie or a big screen adaption of Sex and the City? What drugs is this guy on?

The Big Chill, the 2 (2008) should be good I hope. Maybe not ... like The Big Chill did come out in 1983. It has been 25 years ... who is dead NOW

Hey, I wanna see Rambo! Everyone I mention it to gets excited about it, and wants to know the plot. Especially when I say Stallone is back in the role. On the list, I want to see:

Cloverfield
Rambo
Iron Man
Speed Racer
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Wanted
The Dark Knight

Off the list:
Star Trek
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
10,000 B.C.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army(Hey, that had a trailer. Where was this on the list?)
James Bond 22
Death Race
Get Smart
Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay
The Incredible Hulk
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Jumper
Meet the Spartans
The X-Files Sequel

As you can see, there are a lot more movies coming out.

If that is the case... Wanted? Huh? I've been subjected to that trailer three times now. It's an awful trailer. It wisely gives a lot of weight to its Morgan Freeman voiceovers, but when what he's saying is utter nonsense that falls apart the moment any rational examination is applied; that's not helpful. At best, we're looking at a passable power fantasy action movie.

In fact, I've seen a lot of trailers (and movies) lately in the cinema. The best one? Hellboy II, naturally. Go del Toro!

(And no, I did not see The Dark Knight in the cinema. Just unlucky I guess...)

What? Where is Star Trek! ?

"Horton Hear a Hoo" seems a strange choice;

But, I always anticipate the next Pixar film; each one is a classic. If you have children; it's all the more exciting. Wall-E looks great and is directed by the same person who did Finding Nemo; so you know it will be good.

I was not happy with Batman Begins; although I know many liked it; I thought it started well but quickly descended into familiar territory.

Iron Man all the way!

Sex in te City??? who cares?

Definetly Prince Caspian!

Cloverfield looks great!

At first, I had no interest except for the Trek trailer; but this movie looks great; I'm sure I'm not alone; but I've had this idea for a while now; make a monster movie from the perspective of the ground; like a live newscast; basically like Blair Witch; but with great special effects; I'm surprised it took people this long to do it? But, looks very intersting and creative.

Also looks a little 28 Days Later influenced. But, we should be happy a creative person like this is helming trek.

By the way; this script report looks good to me; I have no problem with a cheating Kirk; it's not really "cheating" per-se; he didn't like the choices so he mixed things up. And it does fit the old school Kirk for sure.

Wasn't he court-marshalled in a film?

Kirk always bends the rules, but for the greater good, to help people and not for his own selfish reasons; Kirk "cheated" beacuase he thought it was better to give students the option of saving people; instead of cold-calculations.

Maybe if it were the 10 films most awaited with nervous trepidation...

Unlike Indiana Jones, Trek's track record is patchy at best. It doesn't matter to film critics who's holding the torch... Roddenberry, Bennett, Berman or come to that, Abrams. The film is six times more likely to be below average than outstanding. It has everything to prove, while the others on that list can rely on a ready made audience for success...
