10 most-anticipated movies of 2008

There isn't a single movie in that list that comes out after July. The headline should read 10 Most-Anticipated Movies of The First Half of 2008.

And, BTW, what is a hyphen doing between Most and Anticipated, anyway? Now I'm pissed off!

Soulless minions of orthodoxy! :brickwall:

And the reason I retained their hyphen in the thread title is that technically it means that it's not a top-ten list but just a sampling of movies a lot of people are looking forward to seeing.

Is anyone else surprised that Cloverfield is on the list instead of Trek XI? I mean sure it looks interesting but I have not sensed a ton of anticipation for it. If they where going to pick one JJ Abrams movie for 2008 that people are looking forward to I would think Trek XI would have been the no brainer.

I think it's safe to say Indy IV is the most anticipated movie of the last 20 years.

Wow!...That's a misleading title for that Yahoo article.

No Indiana Jones (as mentioned above), no James Bond, and no Harry Potter (plus no Star Trek). With these glaring ommissions, I would not put too much importance on this list -- it's obviously a flawed list, even if Star Trek wasn't coming out in 2008.

ViveLaFrance had a good point about the missing films not having trailers yet. Maybe the title of the Yahoo article should be "Trailers for Some of the Most Anticipated Films for 2008" -- but that's a bit wordy.

Or maybe those are the films that paid to be on Yahoo's list? I wouldn't accept anything like that at face value.

Iron Man and Wall-E sound good. Might see Speed Racer just for Jack from Lost. :D The others are gonna have to give me a better reason to see em than any trailer can provide. Trailers can be extremely misleading as I'm sure we all know by experience.

I don't think you can consider a move anticipated until it is announced to be in production; otherwise, the word would be "desired". IMHO, Indy 4 has not been anticipated until the point where the script was approved, the director hired, and the players cast.

These lists are put together by flunkies who are employed by whatever publication they are working for.

Can you tell me with a straight face that "Wall-E", "Sex and the City" and "Dr Seuss" are more anticipated than "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"? Give me a break.

Indy IV in every other poll is easily the most anticipated film of 08. As a matter of fact I saw an article that said Indy IV was the most highly anticipated film of the last 20+ years with the one exception of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and we all know how that one turned out.

That said I don't think the general public even knows about this film. The only mainstream press the film has had to this point has been about Shatner not being in the film (so far at least) and all that press was negative.

I will be very interested to see how this film is sold to the general public as well as how it does at the box office.

Ok, by those parameters, you can notch it back to 10 years :)

Hardly. For one thing, no one under the age of 20 will give a hoot about Indy.

Whenever I see lists like this, I wonder whose anticipating these films. Is it the studios, the makers, the moviegoers or is it some alien lifeform on the 7th planet in the Denab system?

My nephew is 15 and he can't wait for Indy 4. :p

Over the holidays we watched the INDY movies I to III with our kids. Only the thirteen year old caught fire.

I'm not at all surprised. There's huge buzz about Cloverfield, mainly since its such a big unknown. We're going to be surprised, one way or another. Trek and Indy 4 don't have trailers, and more importantly have set formulas in place - even though the material is new, we kinda know what to expect.

I'm thinking Cloverfield will be a giant turd. Nothing about the preview intrigued me. I guess it's because I can't stand watching (home) movies where people don't know how to hold a camera still. Sorta like on the car forum I frequent where people post up pics of a car and the camera was held at a really crazy angle.
