1 unforgivable flaw of this series: the 80s hair metal theme song

An "unforgivable flaw?" Please. Def Leppard it was not. The theme song was just fine (except when they added that goofy beat to it halfway through the series). The show had a lot of flaws, but the theme song wasn't one of them.

Sounds like someone confused Faith of the Heart with Kickstart my heart :)
Although the cast of ENT was quite a motley crew........

have a hard time taking a show seriously that employs butt rock in its opening credits

What the hell is "butt rock"?

Faith of the Heart may not have been my choice for a theme. But is it an unforgivable flaw? No.

this issue has never been brought up before. I commend you for bringing it to our attention.

Let's see...

wrong decade...

wrong genre...

wrong about it being a bad song and bad choice for the theme...

It's a Fail Hat-Trick!

If I've been out somewhere, I'll sometimes greet the people I'm coming back to with "it's been a long road!" belted out as loudly and obnoxiously as possible. It's kind of lame, but it's become an ongoing meme at this point.

Whilst I may or may not the theme song/tune to any given series. It is hardly an unforgivable flaw.

I tend to be more concerened about the really unimportant things like characterisation/ story telling/ continuity etc... :p

The theme song did is some respects fit the overall theme of the back story about Humans being (or believing) to be held back by the Vulcans, and that it had taken centuries for Humanity to reach the stars from the earliest days of exploration.

Theme songs can be more divise than theme tunes because of different tastes in songs (Pop, Rock, Metal etc..)

I love the theme song.

A female vocalist would've made all the difference... particularly the way UPN went. Made it all ethereal and a bit Evanescence sounding, who were a popular at the time. Sort of a heavy metal, ballard crossover.

I'm a metal fan and that is not anything remotely 80s hair band like.

I had to Google it earlier and the "Urban Dictionary" site did give "hair band" as a synonym for "butt rock":
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=buttrock

"1)A term to identify a band trademarked with cheap, unoriginal song lyrics; the vocalist hiding his lack of vocal talent by producing a deep and 'raspy' voice (i.e. Nickelback, Creed).

"2)A term to identify any song composed by a buttrock band or any individual song which possesses buttrock qualities (see def. 1)

"3) A term to identify anything, absract or concrete, that is distasteful, poorly conceived or overtly offensive.

"thesaurus for buttrock:
butt rock gay butt cockrock glam rock hair metal metal power ballads rock"
When I first heard they were revamping Rod Stewart's song, "Faith of the Heart", previously used on the closing credits of the soundtrack of the Robin Williams movie, "Patch Adams", I sent off for that CD from Amazon - and played it to death (loved it!) in the months leading up to the premiere of ENT.

Songwriter Diane Warren was riding on a real popularity high at the time. She also wrote the grand finale song, "Listen With Your Heart", that was featured on the then-current season of "Australian Idol" (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqO4tikCpJY for the runner-up's version, which I preferred to the winner's version), and that song could almost have been a sequel song to "Faith of the Heart" (renamed "Where My Heart Will Take Me" for ENT).

Australia also had Russell Watson sing "Where My Heart Will Take Me" at a football grand final, with not much indication that it was also the theme to a then-current "Star Trek" TV series on the same channel, then into its fourth season, IIRC. It was just an enjoyable song, presented by a popular singer. (Ah, also as the "Athlete's Theme", performed live by Watson at the Opening Ceremony of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.)

I was very happy that the song was such a change of pace for the opening credits of ENT. Which I still enjoy watching and hearing.

That's not what I call a hair band.
