1/350th + art

First, I think I'll show some of my old artwork, since this is an art forum.

There is much more to show.

I think it should also be known that I am "Mysterious Stranger" and "Captain James B. Quirk."

So, if anyone has a beef, please e-mail me. Prof Mo, we need to talk.

Keep on Trekkin and Keep on Checkin!

Nice work KirkTrekModeler,

I recognized the Randfin19iy pic as the cover of Cheon of Weltanland. One of my favorite fantasy novels since I was 13.

Welcome back, KirkTrekModeler; we're looking forward to good work from you. But please keep the history off the forum - this is not the place to resurrect old ghosts unless they're the ghosts of Star Trek past.

Everyone else, this applies to you, too.

Welcome back. No beef, just be careful what you call your artwork. I see other people's hard work (including my own) in your photo manipulations.

Not sure exactly how to respond to this. You gave me permission to use your ship, especially since it was a toonified version, as did Prof Mo and Vektor. I believe I still have those e-mails, if you would like me to forward them back to you. Since I never copyright any of my work, I wouldn't know how to give proper credit for one aspect of a composite. should I also credit Leonard Nimoy and Gene Roddenberry? As for the Borjis Vallejo picture with the composited faces of Rand and Uhura, I think it's pretty obvious that it's a manipulation of a Vallejo painting. As for the pen and ink, chalk and charcoal, pencil sketches etc... That was all done free hand by myself as was the photoshop work. I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea.

If there is a sincere complaint I will remove said works, if I can still edit that post. If there's anything else you're refering to, please be more specific.

Not a problem.

By reading and following the FAQ, which hasn't changed in this regard:

Q: I want to use part of someone else’s work in some of my own. How do I give them proper credit?
A: This is a case where cluttering up the image is not a matter of choice. PROPER CREDIT MUST APPEAR ON THE IMAGE for elements that you yourself did not create. If you like to render 3D fleet battles containing dozens of starship meshes by other authors then every single one of them must be credited. If you don't know who created the element you want to use then at least acknowledge that its creator is unknown so there’s no confusion that you might be claiming it as your own. The format is fairly typical: “Enterprise mesh by Dennis Bailey” or “Photomanipulation by Captain Robert April.”

What Ptrope said. Also, if you say I gave you permission, then I have no doubt that I did. When I do give permission (and I think I always do), it's with the caveat that I be credited. It's possible I forgot to ask that of you, and if so I apologize. In any case, no hard feelings, just please remember to add proper credit.

Thanks.

OK, well, I can't go back, at this point and edit out the offending pictures, so what do I do now? I never come out on the right end of this debate, this is one of the reasons that I never copyright my work. The original subject material is owned by Paramount and is mostly from a 40yr old television show. With the exceptions of the obviously hand drawn images. If there was a caveat that I include the reference to the original data, than I sincerely appologise. Can just the pictures with Kirkunit's Enterprise, Pro Mo's Tiberius and the offending Borjis Vallejo painting be removed, while the rest remain?

Why not simply add the credits to the images, rather than deleting them? If you have the ability to composite them to begin with, it should be easy to add the credits and replace the images online - no need to delete them.

The credits don't need to be large - just present. And we have certain leeway when it comes to things like screen captures and the like - a small notice of Paramount's copyright should be sufficient. More than anything, acknowledging your fellow fan-artists' creations and hard work is the very least any of us should do - we would expect the same, yes?

Well, If I can't edit the post, how am I going to change the pictures and edit the new ones in? I have no problem recognizing my fellow fan-artists work, but it seems at this point the damage has been done and the best way would be for you to delete them from the original post, since I don't have that ability. I will make sure not to post anything like this in the future.

Edit the images appropriately, delete the old images from imageshack.com, then upload the revised images to imageshack under the old names.

The rest takes care of itself.

The offending images have been removed from imageshack. The rest of the art is all my work. Is that sufficient?

Note: I've always offered what I do up for free and told people that they could do whatever they want with it, that's why I don't put copyrights on my work, whether it's blueprints, art work, photo manipulations....etc.... It seems that fan art is really kind of an odd thing to copyright, especially since Paraborg owns the rights to Star Trek. I didn't post these images to start a debate and hope that I have satisfied the desires of the complaintants.

While I was deleting those pics, I ran across some more of my old art.

a fine toothed comb.

I went back over the thread and I can see where I left some things out. I've got four actual builds going on, one is the first build, from the original masters and I've got most of the parts to make two other ships and I've got some original fiberglass parts that I'm trying to turn into a build.

Below is the build I'm doing of the third set of vacuum formed parts, however, I'm reconstructing all of the detail parts for the third time. I know this may sound confusing, but bear with me. A lot has happened since I made the first set of masters. This ship has been through some major refits and reworks.

Anyway, below is a partial build up and test fit, as well as some of the ideas and add-ons I made for this display.

This will be my masterpiece.

Here's and Engineering half shell that I cleaned up and cut, to fit the detail parts.

Lower saucer section. That notch will be repaired.

Upper and lower saucer section combined, yep, still needs work.

This is a laser etched pattern I made up for the new pylons.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f63/6242amu/_anp3.jpg

Here's a brass etched, "Dedication Plaque" I made up for the base. which will include the planet and a scale version of the bridge, as well as a Delta.

I'm preping the Engineering section for decals.

As you can see, in the background I've got several hulls going at the same time. I want to take the best of all the parts and make one ship, then I'm going to work on the Miranda and Dreadnought. :)

I'll have to get some pictures of the Delta up.

Very impressive work, KTM. I'm green with envy at your scratchbuilding skills.

BTW, welcome back.
