Spoilers ðŸ’• The Official SFA Shipping Thread 💕

the DOTs were also all voiced by comedians, Jeremy Culhane, Brian David Gilbert and Rekha Shankar. I've seen all three of them before on Dropout shows.

Though interestingly, they're only credited as 'DOTs' not the names Ake gives them.

Just seeing them in the trailer I kind of hated the DOTs, but the way they’ve been using them so far, as visual gags in the background, is super charming. Kinda reminds me of all those service robots in WALL·E and how they were basically doing slapstick routines.

I know this is neither here nor there, but since I’ve just brought up WALL·E, did anyone else think the Starfleet Academy title sequence is a bit reminiscent of the opening sequence of that film?

Makes me wonder if the names were just Holly Hunter ad-libbing during the take?

I knew it reminded me of something! 🤯 That’s exactly it!

^ Yes! Loved those two. I can see Jett as a Frankie kind of woman, but less so Lura as Grace. Graces’s daughter Brianna however I could defintiely imagine as a drill instructor. ;)

I guess I don’t even have to mention Charla (Charles + Nahla), because they are too on the nose, right?

Excuse me, but it's actually called Nahlie (to envoke the term gnarly, which it would be if chuck wasn't a married man)

This is a very serious thread.

You may post about your preferred ’ship freely. The community will judge about its sustainability accordingly. You are free to disregard the judgement and continue to ship, even though everyone might see you are wrong to do so.

With two episodes of Starfleet Academy already aired, possible (and unpossible) shipping opportunities are already getting pretty clear.

I’ll get the ball rolling and whisper into the silence:

(We won’t moderate what happens in your imagination, but it goes without saying the thread will have to be SFW, of course.)

Thread to be closed as duplicate - there already is a thread for SFA ships.

^ Love the way you envision it! Will definitely be there for all of that!

Trying to think of which relationship in pop culture these two remind me of. I wanna say Callie and Arizona on Grey’s Anatomy (for the two people still remembering them), but then again, they were always fighting over one thing or the other, so maybe not the best example.

My wife read your reply over my shoulder and said to say "Don't forget the custody battle!" lol I agree with that assessment honestly, Callie and Arizona fought waaaay too much. I think Renthok would be more a mutual respect/warm ribbing kinda vibe, definitely not the full throat double-barrel that callie and arizona was

Even though not a couple, I could see them playing off each other like Grace and Frankie.

That's actually pretty close to how I envision it, but with a lot more philosophy, random life lessons, snarky commentary, and random engineered devices strewn around lol

Reno and Thok would be Rok because they do

Renthok/Rok both are such good ones I can't decide which is best lol

I see Charla being more of a close hetero-life mate kind of friendship. Doesn't Vance already have a wife and kids?

This was my thought too. They're more like siblings, or super close best friends than they are close to be romantic, and that's specifically because Vance is a good, loyal man. Their relationship feels like a Guinan/Picard situation.

^ Oh, okay. They hugged so hard I totally forgot about that. ;)

One has to wonder if someone who’s lived as long as Nahla would even consider short-lived species as humans as possible partners.

I think either she doesn't get involved, or she has a very good mental headspace about it if she does. One of her parents was human, so I doubt she views relationships with humans as a bad thing, but at the same time, I could see how she would be hesitant. Her heart is too soft, in a good way, to take that tragedy too many times. Been there, done that, it sucks the life out of you eventually, even if they haven't passed but just left. I could see, from my own mental lens of sharing a similar personality to her, that it would take an exceptional person to win her over, regardless of lifespan. Being so long lived, I imagine it's even harder.

Then again, I could see the Lanthanites being a relatively solitary species, since they are seemingly all quirky, hippie, knowledge driven and experience driven folks. Class traits, if you will, so that's not to say they value those things greater than teaching, or equality, etc, but that they are naturally drawn to being those types of people either via environment, culture, or another factor. Perhaps because of their long lives, it's just the natural conclusion they reach. They're very, very Buddhist in a way though as well, and don't see to value much attachment, at least not yet. Nahla's connection to Caleb is probably one fo the more stronger connections we've seen of Lanthanites so far, and as much as I loved Pelia, she could be rather detached at times. Perhaps that's just Pelia however, and not all Lanthanites are like that.

I think Nahla just hasn't found the right person for her, yet, regardless of lifespan. It took me almost 30 years to find the person who could keep up with my academia-obsessed, history spouting, book passage quoting brain lol.

Calaydesis (Caleb-Jayden-Genesis polycule)

I love this idea specifically because I think it would drive Ocam's empathy up a wall and make him emotion drunk again like he was at the end of episode 2 lol
