With two episodes of Starfleet Academy already aired, possible (and unpossible) shipping opportunities are already getting pretty clear.

Genuinely curious how these characters will play off each other and if there’s chemistry. IRL I don't think comedians (or just funny people in general) don't often have partners that are necessarily funny/comedians as well. Too much competition. Could work, could also feel forced. Jury’s still out.

NGL, I could sense chemistry since the table scene. The way they were talking blasted past familiar ribbing lol

Personally, I think it'll work because Reno's a very straight-man type of character, always serious or super dry, whereas Lura is super vivacious and full of life. I can see how Lura would raise Jett up, but Jett would also ground Lura. My wife and I have a similar dynamic, I'm the Jett to her Lura. I think if they can learn to bounce off each other, not only will it be great TV, but it'll give all the cadets a run for their money

Trying to think of which relationship in pop culture these two remind me of. I wanna say Callie and Arizona on Grey’s Anatomy (for the two people still remembering them), but then again, they were always fighting over one thing or the other, so maybe not the best example.

Even though not a couple, I could see them playing off each other like Grace and Frankie.

^ Yes! Loved those two. I can see Jett as a Frankie kind of woman, but less so Lura as Grace. Graces’s daughter Brianna however I could defintiely imagine as a drill instructor.

I guess I don’t even have to mention Charla (Charles + Nahla), because they are too on the nose, right?

I see Charla being more of a close hetero-life mate kind of friendship. Doesn't Vance already have a wife and kids?

One has to wonder if someone who’s lived as long as Nahla would even consider short-lived species as humans as possible partners.

Wait, I missed this, did one of the DOTs actually get a name? If this were Lower Decks they might just do something like this (have an Exocomp date a service bot).

Right after the scene with Walnut Basket in the elevator, Ake and Thok encounter three DOTs in the hallway and Ake addresses them as "Carl", "Stanley" and "Larinda".

Right! For some reason I understood that as her making up names for the drones. But I probably misunderstood. I’ve been meaning to rewatch “Beta Test” but haven’t found time for it yet.
