“Substantial” 360 and PC Fallout 3 DLC equivalent to Oblivion’s KotN,

I know there was a lot of talk about Fallout 3 during E3 so I thought folks might be interested in this.

"
Speaking to VG247 this morning, Bethesda’s Peter Hines has said that Fallout 3’s DLC will be coming to PC as well as 360.
The company’s comms boss also said that gamers can expect a serious upgrade to the anticipated RPG.
“I couldn’t even tell you right now what the DLC would be, but our plans are for substantial stuff,” he said. “The equivalent of things like Knights of the Nine for Oblivion, where it provides many hours of gameplay, not just a one-off thing of an item (or items) or a hangout, or things like that.”
Todd Howard used the word “substantial” to describe the additional content at E3, where he also said it would be 360-exclusive. Hines told us, though, that the PC version would be getting the DLC as well.
“DLC is going to be exclusive to the PC and 360, not just 360,” he said. “Every platform has its advantages and disadvantages when it comes to DLC, and I assure you we are intimately aware of every technical, business, and fan-service aspect when it comes to DLC and any given platform.
“We felt [PC and 360 exclusivity] was the right thing to do for Fallout 3.”
Fallout 3 ships on October 7 in the US, and we’re still waiting on a Euro date. No hint’s been given as to when we’re going to see the DLC as yet."

There's a dog in Fallout 3, yes? Maybe they'll sell dog armor.

No idea how this exclusive DLC thing got started. The whole "making sense" thing doesn't make sense, given that most PS3s have more room than the 360s anyway.
That said, I still don't know which version to get... 360 would be easier, I suppose, but I'm sure Fallout 3 will get the same mod treatment that Oblivion did on the PC.

Microsoft's been really aggressive with the whole DLC thing, I expect we'll start to see how sensible a decision this is when the first DLC for Grand Theft Auto hits, I imagine it'll get a major push marketing wise.

I wonder how much the folks at Bethesda get for the exclusive DLC., Knights of the Nine was pretty significant. Also wondering whether the DLC includes new areas or whether it's new quests set in the current world.

Aside from the (frankly ridiculous) horse armour nonsense, the Oblivion add-ons were mostly pretty damn sweet.

Mehrunes Razor was a pretty stonking dungeon romp made all the sweeter by its many fanwanky Morrowind references, Knights of the Nine was an epic quest on a par with the Main Quest (no Sean Bean though...) and Shivering Isles - well, it was practically a new game, which took the Oblivion formula and improved upon it.

The dens/strongholds etc were pretty cool too, and only 150 points apiece. Aside from Horse Armour and Frostcrag Spire I've bought them all twice (once on PC and once on 360), and it's been thoroughly worth it imho.

If they're taking the KoTN route, I think it's safe to assume that the first DLC will fall into the latter category. But, I'm guessing it will be pretty easy for them to expand the F3 gameworld to include another city, etc. There won't be any mysterious 3 headed portals, but there's bound to be an invisible barrier somewhere that they can open up.

Can't wait. F3 will be Oblivion all over again, but better!

As an aside, is anyone else playing F1&2 in anticipation? Got a hi-res patch for Fallout 1 and it's surprisingly nice. Runs in 1280x1024 and looks gorgeous.

I bought one of the DLC things for Oblivion, that wizard tower thing... only to discover that Bethesda's DRM that they used on the DLC did not work at all in Vista. No refunds. Awesome! Though that was a while ago, I can only assume they've fixed it by now but it was not a happy experience.

I was thinking about buying the Fallout collection, but it seems to be sold out.

I've never played 1 or 2 and know very little about either but I am really looking forward to playing 3.

Re: “Substantial” 360 and PC Fallout 3 DLC equivalent to Oblivion’s Ko

Well I found the collection in stock, 1, 2 and Tactics, plus bonus material it says, for £7.99

Re: “Substantial” 360 and PC Fallout 3 DLC equivalent to Oblivion’s Ko

I'm a HUGE fan of Oblivion, is there any sense yet whether Fallout3 is going to be as open-ended and free-roaming as Oblivion? That's my very favorite aspect of the game - you basically create your own game experience entirely.

Absolutely yes. One preview I read (in Xbox360 World) even went as far to say that Fallout 3 was as much a spiritual follow-up to Oblivion as it was a Fallout sequel.

Bethesda are a good fit imho. The Fallout games are a lot different to The Elder Scrolls, but the core go anywhere/do anything/carve your own experience mechanics are very familiar to both.

Re: “Substantial” 360 and PC Fallout 3 DLC equivalent to Oblivion’s Ko

Hopefully the DLC/expansion stuff will add gameplay features as well as environments. I can think of a few natural additions which would be nice to have, such as the Highwayman from Fallout 2.
