I've watched the trailer a few times and it looks to me like she is saving him and the new non-binary character from whomever she is making unconscious with her phaser . But i'm guessing gold still represents operations in the 32nd century. Gold never gets old.

Yeah, it's interesting scene, the way its framed, but she is actually shooting past the gold shirt.
